Re: Loud knocking under home

I will guess most probably a critter - sharpening it's teeth on something. They really like the metal and/or plastic straps that hold plumbing and ducting. And that was the end of the good news. If it is a rat - be prepared to have one heck of a mess in short order. If there is flex duct - make it e...

Re: New ducts means new insulation

I've already ordered and received all new 26 gauge metal skirting. I'm kinda sorta torn between leaving the skirting uninstalled until the insulation is blown in.....or going ahead and installing and having the back side of the skirting sprayed as well. I had the same concern about water lines - and...

Re: New subfloor over the existing

I put laminate down in a room....and i really should have replaced all of that particle board stuff with real plywood. The floor looked and felt fairly smooth - and following the advice of the flooring salesperson, I laid the planks so that the length ran with the primary window in the room. In my c...

New ducts means new insulation

it's finally done!!! I have been well over 5 months trying to get a contractor to re-configure my HVAC ducting. At first I thought no one wanted to do it because it was completely changing the ducting paths. What i know now is that no one wanted to do it because "mobile home". In any case....

Re: Reil Rock Skirting - question about install

Their take on the venting flies against all I have ever been told. But...this wouldn't be the first time where a scientific approach yields an unexpected result. Their methods did include dirt floor cralw spaces covered with a vapor barrier - but they also extended the barrier up (at the sides) to t...

Re: Reil Rock Skirting - question about install

All this venting stuff is 'old school' - back before there was school. https://www.thisoldhouse.com/ideas/crawlspace-vent-question I look at this the same as HVAC ducting. Bare metal ducting left exposed (not insulated) will draw condensation. The same ducting in the same space with insulation - doe...

Re: Floor marriage line/seam question

Who hired the crew? Are they 'employees' of the business that sold your home? I would go the route of contacting them and giving them the opportunity to make it right. Have a 'hit list' ready for them - and make sure you are clear on your expectations. Past that - if it all fails to yield satisfacto...

Re: Help! I need skirting!

So in anticipation of the installation of brand new metal skirting - I began looking to find foundation vents to meet the need. BUT! There seems to be some new understanding of crawl spaces - and foundation vents are no longer recommended??? I found an article on Angie's list - and it refers to EPA ...

Greg - on your skirting, did you use a custom manufactured product to meet your sizing? Was this DIY? panels? etc? Links??

thanks !

Re: What's behind that trim board?

ugh. 2x2's?? not even a plate or something? and being i can't see where to drive a couple nails - i run a good chance of splitting out a 2x2.

guess I will just peel it off - and then proceed. I need to know where the trusses are so I dont end up with nails driven into nothing but sheet rock.

What's behind that trim board?

Does anyone know what is behind that trim board at the crest of a vaulted ceiling covering the marriage seam? My place is a double-wide, and the trim board is starting to sag in a couple places. I thought i could maybe just nail it back up...but I can't tell where the rafters are at. Are the two set...

Re: Under insulation

I had the entire belly tore out - including all the insulation as it had become contaminated by a critter or two. Once i have finished the HVAC replacement - I am having a fellow come out to do spray foam insulation. What i really like about the spray foam is that it seals off all the nooks and cran...

Re: Help! I need skirting!

I just ordered all new metal skirting to go all the way around. I added new J-channel and cornering for a complete seal. of course, I will make cut outs for foundation venting. All told, I am less than $800 for everything. Lowest contract bid i got was $3400. Make sure you get the 26 gauge metal pan...

Re: Abandoning the belly

As to the stuff up above.... Another part of this overhaul is also replacing all of the skirting with metal. The contractor just called and told me they couldn't put the skirting in where there is decking - that they would have to go out around the decking. Well...that's all good and fine but it jus...
