Re: roofing question..
Who ever is inspecting at the MFG apparently was not looking. The shingle MFG, HUD, IBC, IRC all mandate ventilation. Some of these plants are inspected by third party firms. Who ever gives the MFG the lowest price and is a kinder/ gentler inspector usually gets the work. Should have been caught at ...

Re: roofing question..
If they are covering over the bath fan vents and the whole house vent they will have roof rot eventually. Then when the insurance company comes out to settle claim of sagging rafters they will be denied plus for not obtaining a permit. Use 1/4 inch screen under ridge vent. No more no less stops-- bu...

Install insulation if needed and over lap patch onto existing belly skin aprox 1ft let tack up.. Then pull to other side, spray, let tack up and then press onto existing belly material. ...

Visqueen (black plastic) and spray adhesive if the holes are not over 6ft in diameter.
Wipe off area with rag, spray adhesive on patch and existing belly skin, let tack up for about 30 seconds and install.

If you do install a new water heater install pan under it and run out pan drain and p/r line separate through skirting. If either is leaking you can tell by looking at the drains at the skirting. Flush water heater once a year through the faucet provided on the water heater. Make sure plumber provid...

Re: Laying down new subfloor
I have seen many MFG home floor decking in great shape after 30 years. If in bad shape, yes then replace. But if looking good leave it. Make sure your belly skin is in place and sealed.
Stops the migration of moisture.
Just some thoughts.

He is telling you a story regarding that foam damper. If they are so great why don't we see them in site built. It is all about cost to the MFG housing industry, the idea is to keep cost low to the MFG.

Re: Laying down new subfloor
Go lightweight, install 3/8 ( if available) tongue and groove plywood. Stagger joints so they don't line up over existing seams. Think about where you may install linoleum for you will need to fill and sand those joints. Staple areas where carpeted and screw where linoleum may be installed. Toilet a...

Re: range hood
Before buying measure width of opening and check top of existing hood and compare to vent opening of new hood.
You may need a transition fitting from rectangular to round. If rectangular pick up dampener . Make sure it opens before securing hood in place.
Hood should be rated 90cfm.

Re: Quick roof over question
Always follow MFG specs. If problem occurs, MFG (roofing) rep comes out and inspects and you did not follow install instructions, they have no warranty obligation.

Re: Redoing underbelly on 1973 DW
Capture.PNG I have included the HUD standards for belly skin. All of the materials listed above would stop the migration of both moisture/air. The only item visqueen would not meet is the puncture proof test i.e 40lb. You don't want the migration of moisture/odors/radon on any home. Historically MF...
