Re: freezing faucets

Id second the idea of opening the bottom cupboards, it works if youre in a jam.
Besides what Greg suggests, Id add sealing where the pipes come up through the floor/cabinets. Sometimes a small air gap can let in the cold there as well.

Re: Torx (Star Drive) Screws

I agree, fasteners thrown in with most projects are Made in China junk. Good call on using soap to help things along. My grandfather was a master carpenter and I remember seeing a bar of Safeguard soap in his toolbox for just that reason.

Weight of the fireplace you choose will also be a factor.

There is also an issue with security with sliders. Lots of glass to break and make entry. Just something to think about.

Re: Code enforcement ?

If the job site is clean and safe, nothing outside of the permitted construction is done, and the work starts/stops at a reasonable time of day, there should be no problem at all. So youre doing the right thing. It is common around here for inspectors to drop by during the day, many times they do a ...

Re: Cats using flower beds as litterbox!!!

My Mom used to plant lavender. Ive also heard a few lemon/orange peels also repel cats(they dont like the smell) but I dont know if it works. Resist the urge to use extreme measures like engine coolant or moth balls. The chemicals are toxic to most pets, and you can be charged with animal cruelty if...

Re: Ventline Exhaust Fan

From what Ive heard, Mark is a stand up guy. He should be getting back to you shortly.

I did notice that the V2280 in the catalog link above says its a replacement for the non-lighted V2270 fan by enlarging the hole. That may be your ticket.

Re: Sagging outer walls, water problems and more...

Ive always found that you can find good help by simply asking around, see if anyone else has had good luck with a company/individual. You can also stop by a mobile home store and see who they might recommend in your area.

Re: Siding replacment options

Vinyl would be a quick way to get it done. The basic colors can be had on sale, or you can get lucky and find a discontinued color or style(I did that 40% off!!!) Vinyl is a snap to install too.

I have also installed fiberboard once, also looks good, but a little more time consuming to cut and trim.

Exterior walls, definitely, make sure you have a good vapor barrier as well. Otherwise, moisture and mold will begin to grow, bad news!!

Re: HELP!! water line ruptured flooding our manufactured ho

Definitely replace any particle board that even looks like it got wet. Don't be afraid to ask questions when the adjuster is there, that's his/her job. Make sure the mold is fully taken care of before occupying it again, it can be very unhealthy!! Have the plumbing checked to ensure you don't have a...

I would cut out any sections of flooring and replace with plywood. I just wouldnt trust any particle board that got wet at one time.

Re: Vapor barrior behind drywall or not?

Without a vapor barrier, moisture will cause mold, rot, and can be an invitation for termites/carpenter ants. Make sure all repairs are properly taken care of, vapor-barrier wise.

Re: Sweating toilet tank

Ive also seen people glue polystyrene pieces to the inside of the tank. It basically makes the tank have a built-in styrofoam cooler, I guess. Could be a cheap fix if you can find the material.
