Re: Porch Pictures

Hi Suzque.. You may want to start the planning this way..... are you in a mobile home park? do they have rules on what they will allow for a porch? are there local zoning laws, and inspection requirements from the municipalities you live in? (local, county, state) a certain type of concrete pad may ...

Re: I need advice on difficult flooring

cool Greg, the pry bar part of it was what i was missing out on in the thought process... I do know it is easier to hammer in a wider piece if you work with a whole piece, the narrower the gap, the higher the angle the patch sits at, and the harder you have to hit the piece. I put a scrap piece in b...

Re: I need advice on difficult flooring

ok,. this may sound horrible, but... if the wall sags the height of the flooring that was removed, how much damage occurs? I cleaned out the space between where the floor was, and was able to hammer the floor patch in place under the wall.... I wonder if you put and extra piece in the middle of the ...

Re: I need advice on difficult flooring

I am having trouble picturing the problem.... if the floor went under the wall in the past, why can't you cut the old flooring off flush to the wall, and out to the edgeo of the first joist into the room you then put a 2 x4 onto the joist and the wall rim joist and at to make a ledge to hold the new...

Re: Residing and Insulating outer walls

air flow... wondering.... you haven't changed anything that could affect the return air flow?

not put in doors that go clear to the carpet with no gap, or blocked a return air duct?

just one more idea to check out!

Re: Remodel or Replace

You and your wife may both be right on the smoking/mold stuff.... cigarettes contain mold, and you can become mold sensitive that way.... there may be mold in the home, and you, the sensitized one... are the only one to smell it... You can become allergic to nicotine, and when you are reacting to th...

Re: Older Home Smells Musty :( HELP!

is water getting under the home when it rains and staying there? sources can be bad grading (land slopes towards the home) or gutters or drip channels dumping the water too near the home and the water runs back under the home... a ditch may be needed lol. I will be doing one within the month to try ...

Re: Leak Around Sliding Glass Door?

Dave, I often make a 36 inch square area of vinyl tile or allure plank vinyl floating floor by exterior doors. remove the damaged carpet, staple carpet edge to the subfloor.... screw a 1/4 thick 36 inch square of luann to the subfloor, use floor leveler on the screw heads, spray adhesive on the luan...

Re: Leak Around Sliding Glass Door?

you may want to check the door handle that the screws are tight, and caulk around it...

not a major source of water, but several small leaks may be adding up on you....

Re: outdoor water faucet?

could you put a screw on cover on the faucet temporarily until the repair? I have them on the drain on the water heaters, as an extra protection against leaks... less than 3 dollars of course, that will only help if the leak is coming out the end of the faucet, and not from the pipe or any connectio...

Re: Hurricane window coverings

if you go the shutter route, I would really investigate what type of latch to use... maybe something as strong as the old fashioned brackets that a 2 x 4 fits in like you saw on frontier doors? high winds are going to be your problem, and if the edge of the shutter lifts up, the wind could catch it ...

Re: Need Hot Water Tank for mobile home

Hello Claire, One answer might be if you can get the right information, if the current water heater needs to be outdoors, can it be put outdoors and a small insulated shed/shelter with the correct venting and chimney be built for it? and then you pipe the water into the house through a pipe with ins...
