Re: Water heater replacement
For a gas unit, you MUST use a mobile home approved model which will be more expensive than a standard unit because the combustion chamber is sealed. This is done to protect you from carbon monoxide poisoning. Since it is a straight swap, I wouldn't think permits should be involved, but CA may be di...

The most difficult part is matching the corner angles. Practice with some scrap pieces to get it right.

The line from the ground into the belly must have good insulation and a heat tape on it. The line inside the belly should be run near the heat ducts, which should keep it warm enough there. What you need to do is eliminate any air movement upward from the crawlspace through the belly. The best thing...

I have the standard mobile home outlets inside, and have (yet) no problems; --BUT-- when my interior GFI outlets quit, I found a back stabbed wire pulled out of the standard outlet outside. I replaced the outlet and used the screws for the new connection.

Re: New With Questions
First thing that comes to mind is water damage, particularly in the floors. Double pane windows. Being in Arizona, you will appreciate a light colored roof and exterior to reduce heat gain, since there is no attic to handle the heat. Most newer homes, maybe mid '80's up, will have 2x6 exterior walls...

Remove the deadbolt strike plate by removing the screws you see above and below the opening. Be careful not to drop it down inside the door frame. See if the deadbolt will now engage. If it does, you know you need to make the opening wider. I have a suspicion that the opening may also not be deep en...

Re: What color is your mobile home interior painted?
It's a good deal of work, but what I did was peel off the thin vinyl layer. Mine was coming loose in places anyhow. The vinyl layer is much thinner than even a sheet of paper. This works if you have the thin wooden walls, covered with the paper. If you have sheet rock, then it will also remove the t...

Where does the line enter the belly? To be sure you get everything off with one valve, you'd likely have to catch it near that point, before it T's off anywhere.

Re: Flooring
The sheet vinyl in our kitchen needed replacement, but it was glued down. The installer put underlayment over it,because the surface would have been too rough with the glue residue. It wouldn't hurt to leave it in place under the c-walls.
