Re: Various types of rain gutters

And what ever you do DO NOT have a handyman service install gutters.
Our vinyl gutters looked great but turned out terrible due to poor roof edge design.

Always use a dedicated service, ie plumbing, roofing etc.
What you may save today will cost you much more later.

Re: Professional kitchen remodel

You are absolutely right. The initial estimate was $12,700 not including 3 new major appliances which would bring it to around $15-17,000. This would be almost 50% of the worth of our doublewide. We decided to wait and replace each appliance as they fail and if all 3 fail at the same time then maybe...

Professional kitchen remodel

We're deciding on various cabinets for our kitchen redo and I'm wondering if anyone here has has a pro do they're kitchen job. It will include new frige, dishwasher, sink, stove and roof vented range-hood.
Medical developments keep me from doing it all myself. I know how, just can't any more.

Re: Total Remodel - Project 3: Drywall & Insulation

I used a Wagner Spray Tech 520000 Power Tex Texture Sprayer, about $75 and it worked great.
Had to practice the knockdown technique, but it was fun. Good instructions included plus online videos helped.

Re: Kitchen cabinet replacement

Spoke briefly with HD lady cause were working on kitchen plans and I see where the profit is. $45 to talk to a planer then $80 per cabinet to install and they don't even do plumbing or electrical. They contact 2 different "Contractors for those jobs. At most we will need 10 cabinets of assorted...

Kitchen cabinet replacement

Has anyone used Kraftmaid cabinets? I'm In the process of redesiging the small, "Galley" styled kitchen with new appliance's and cabinets. Considered the Home depot or Lowes cheap basic cabinets, but I figured plywood would be far better then mush board. Tey willbe more expensive, but I th...

Re: electrical receptical in thin paneling

Greg S, This post is what I'm considering after watching a few videos. I also looked at the link on the Articles and that gave me more ideas. Steve WA's idea is good also, but this would require what would end up as, redoing the entire one living room wall with Sheetrock. If I screw up the spray foa...

electrical receptical in thin paneling

I don't think I ever posted this before except as a side note in another thread, but I have a number of receptacles (wall plugs) that that were never installed on or at studs.

Every time you plug or unplug from these receptacles the wall paneling flexes.

Has anyone found a solution for this?

Re: All is not equal....

I love your mention of Mike Holmes. He's my favorite. If he were to look at what I want to do he would undoubtedly say tear it all down and start from scratch. I pulled off a trim strip yesterday and it had 15 brads in the first 6 inches. Lord only knows what I'll find when I pull off the first pane...

They're motto may be, "Less is more". The less of a product you use, the more the profit. If 6 Nails is great then 5 or 4 will "DO". And yes, those fools with the uncontrollable staple or Brad Guns are maniacs. I get the feeling they think they are using a machine gun, shooting t...

When I rebuilt my #1 bathroom I used plastic "Bullnose" outside corner bead because the rounded design doesn't draw your eye away from it.

Re: New kitchen cabinet advice

This thread comes at just the right time. We too are working on a kitchen re-do. I have tons of drawings, sketches, ideas, notes and brand names up the kazoo. I considered the RTA type cabinets, but wanted to exam one first. Also the finishing would have to look factory done, which usually requires ...

Re: removing batten strips

I used "Setting Type 45 minute compound where the battens came off and the standard compound for areas where drying time wasn't an issue. The Setting type drys fast (20-45 or 90 minutes) where I figured that a 2nd coat would be needed. So far no cracks have appeared after more then a year. Chec...

#1-Get some lose fitting coveralls. No bare skin and bare feet. #2- good lighting like a big flood flashlight. Better is a big trouble light and extension cord. #3- If you meet an animal as big as you are, please crawl fast. #4- Underbelly covering is insulation since it not warm like a regular base...
