Re: Site Preparation
Its colder up here than were you are at. if all the others in the area are fine, and its just your site that has shifted blocks, then there is something wrong with your soil or grade locally. Sandy Loam should drain quite well. you might have something alse going on with your standing water.Talking ...

Re: Site Preparation
you do realize you are basically asking "whats the best way to do the job wrong?" if piers below the frost line are shifting, its because the ground is shifting, probably due to too few piers or piers with too small of a footprint. as it sounds like you are addament on the block method, ge...

Re: Site Preparation
"Block piers set on grade" I assume that mean you are just sticking some concrete blocks underneith. sounds like a bad Idea for a long term placement with wet ground, but if you just gotta do it that way, DO NOT disturb the ground under your blocks at all! leave some blocks in place, then ...

Re: Aluminum Wiring
small Al wire has been pretty much banned for quite a while because it tends to heat up and cause fires. You can still get heavy gauge Al wire. I ran a sub pannel to my parents pool with 2gauge Al. combining the fire starting aspects Al wire with the rapid combustabilty of a mh is a bad idea. I'd ge...

Re: Things I'd do differently..
pocket doors might have been a good solution to what you did. I don't like the high toilets for 2 reasons. 1. my leg(s) falls asleep on an extended stay. 2. bringing your knees up higher, helps things empty easier, for fewer extended stays with a low seat. that said; a new low, super flusher would b...

It used to be common practice for houses to have louvers in the doors for heating air flow.

Re: Replacing Ceiling
looks like you'd need 2x8 to span 16' for a cieling unsuported. kick em up to 2x12s for 22' if you can tie into the rafters in a few spots, and make the whole thing a truss, 2x4s would be more than enough. with just 1 vertical at the peak, 2x4s would be a hair light to span the 22' direction, but sh...

Re: a sawing question
a non sliding 12" will be of higher quality than a comperably priced 10" slider. not to mention less to go wrong with it. the 12" will cut what you need cut. try to get her to throw in a portable stand for it too. I don't like harbor frieght for power tools in general, and the slider ...

Re: Leveling and frost piers
sounds like you have moved or will move the MH so you can work on the space without the trailer in the way. That'll make things easier. as far as the whole frost pier thing. I'd say all bellow the frost line, or all near the surface. If you have every other post moving, but the others stationary, yo...

Re: Crazy Neighbor Stories
Around here, the trailer parks are actually some of the better places (if you don't mind close neibors). This area used to be a big mining area and has never recovered back to what it once was before the end of WW2. There are run down, but livable, homes with land that can be had cheaper than a new ...

Re: Groo - roof repair, broken rafter
that would involve opening up the ceiling and a probably rain of mouse droppings and dirty insulation. pluss it more work than the trailer is worth. Its being used for storage at the moment.
