I have just TSP'd the roof and rinsed it clean waiting for it to dry. I am going to use Henry Tropic-Cool. After doing some considerable resea...

Question: is it necessary to insulate before applying the metal roof since it already is rolled and that would appear to add sufficient insulation. That being the case all we would have to do is apply the wood strips and screw ...

Re: edge of gutter

I have cleaned up and have cut the excess rubber sealer from the edge of the roof which is about 11/2 inches from the roofs edge to the "J" channel. I am painting with an XIM product call UMA which is an excellent sealer for this application. Once painted I will apply the trim color to the...

Gutters

Going to replace gutters. How they have been catching rain and lasting this long is anyone's guess. I know there will be a lot of cutting involved my concern is two-fold. First, can I reuse the old nails or do they need to be new? Will the exiting nail holes be too loose or will the new nails fit th...

Exterior Painting

Preparing to paint the exterior. Will use TSP to pre-clean. What do I use to pre-clean the roof edge? It is black. Is that just dirt or do I have to use another product to clean?
Appreciate your advice.

What is the purpose of the " J " channel? Does the " J " channel act as an additional gutter on the roof line? Does it need to be cleaned? Specifically, how many layers of roof coating should be enough until it needs to be recoated? I'm in the midst of R/R on the roof and want to...
