Re: Another question about floor replacement experience.

Royce, I wonder if you can reinforce the floor under the furnace from underneath by opening up the underbelly, putting a piece of plywood between the joists, put slight pressure on it with a jack or brace to push it up tight to the existing floor and fasten 2 x2 onto the joists to hold the plywood? ...

Re: Replacing the outside Access door to Hot Water Heater

i made one, I covered the wood with reinforced fiberglass board to keep it somewhat dry, and installed insulation on the back of the door. the first try was plain wood, it warped before I got a chance to paint or seal it. if I was doing this again, I might buy one for the time savings. if I was maki...

Re: Ice in drain lines, sinks, faucets etc need thaw-out advice

some info on a logically game plan to stablize the home. We will get above 32 degrees later this week, 30 and 30s in day, freezing at night. I thought I would leave the water turned off, and let things thaw out naturally... better answers? I may be able to borrow a salamender... but this home is goi...

Ice in drain lines, sinks, faucets etc need thaw-out advice

I was given title to a home that had no heat on. The owner thought that you were supposed to let the water dribble to keep the water lines from freezing.... no power on in the home... no heat tape. I went in to find two sinks full of ice, overflowing ice onto the floors, but the bathtub faucet was s...

getting on-site, in person skilled repair advice.....

I hope the moderators allow this post to stay on the board.... In general, for electrical issues, plumbing issues, etc if you can find an aquaintance or a friend of a friend, through your job, church, etc. that does that type of work, you can offer them dinner, or ask if for $20, they would do a &qu...

Re: Exterior Paint Recommendation

Duration is great paint, but like rancoasrich posted, you have to power wash. some areas will need to have hand scrubbing if there are streaks left. and leave a day to dry probably is ideal, since you get water into spaces that needs to drip back out. you also probably should spot prime any area tha...

Re: Problem with Siding that Leaks

Karen, if water runs down the sides of the home, you are risking leaks. I have used j channel with caulk as a replacement gutter under the drip channel... it ran me about $1.10 a foot. So it was about $200 to do the home... it was my first home I renovated for resale. I now stand out side on a rainy...

Re: Problem with Siding that Leaks

I had this same siding probably the exact same model, and the leak was coming from around the outlet, and from missing screw, which had left the screw holes open.....

Re: Advantech vs Plywood

Hey Rod, the side by side test would be cool... Right now, I use 3/4 plywood, and I often take the measurements to the store and have them cut the piece out to lessen the weight, or I have the sheets cut in half as two 4x4 squares, so that I can handle the pieces by myself. 5/8 inch advantech may we...

Re: Advantech vs Plywood

Rod, I don't really see the question answered that I am interested in, which is after it is wet, does it hold together as well as plywood? if it costs less than similar plywood, or if I can use a thinner grade of advantech and get lower cost, weight of board at install, and similar strength after be...

Re: Ventline V2280 Exhuast Fan

since you will probably have to take the whole fan down to get to the motor, clean the fan up and take it with you to the mobile home parts store or the electrical supply house. Actually, the cleaning and relubbing it alone might bring it back to working condition...... most home improvement stores ...

Re: Changing water heater from elec. to gas

wish I could describe this better.... some water heaters have the filling designed to swirl the water more at the bottom of the water heater than normal, to encourage any sediments that form to stay suspended and move out of the heater, not build up as quickly. Some discussion websites said, "n...
