Re: Small question about vinyl floor plywood underlayment

Ron - thank you! By underlayment I meant plywood underlayment, because it is called that way in Home Depot http://www.homedepot.com/p/Underlayment-Common-7-32-in-x-4-ft-x-8-ft-Actual-0-196-in-x-48-in-x-96-in-431178/203183010 I already done with the task, it took 2 evenings after work. Re: Small question about vinyl floor plywood underlayment

Actually you don't need waterproof underlayment with vinyl tiles. I install tile all the time and if it the peel and stick or VCT tile using mastic I always use 5/32 Luan Plywood. Now a days one side is primed and has a pretty good seal to it. If you are putting down any type of underlayment just m...

Re: Small question about vinyl floor plywood underlayment

Personally I would pull everything up down to the joists and replace it with 3/4" plywood or OSB at the very least. It is easy to run into problems with multi layers of flooring, If one of the layers starts to fall apart the others loose support or can swell and make the floor uneven. Greg Gre...

Small question about vinyl floor plywood underlayment

Hi guys! I am trying to replace some vinyl tiles in my mobile home where I live. It is a small area between kitchen and dinning room approx 6x8 feet. It has wooden subfloor underneath and then 2 layers of previous old tiles. First I was thinking about putting new tiles directly to old tiles. But fin...

Re: Choosing a Material for Crawl Space

Thank you, guys. Also a couple of small questions: 1) how to fasten the sides of plastic sheeting and to what they should be attached? I have read some articles on Internet - they recommend to fasten to the walls. But I do not have walls in crawl space, only metal skirting. 2) What tape should be us...

Natural Gas Cooktop Replacement

Hi Guys. Question is not about how to do, but about can I do it or not? I mean if there are any laws or regulations that forbid cooktop replacement by yourself? Thank you in advance!

Re: Choosing a Material for Crawl Space

Hi Guys! Thank you for your response. In my home I found no vapor barrier attached to the bottom of the home. So I think I am talking about a ground cover moisture barrier. Sorry for that confusion with definitions. And about heavy plastic - how many mil will be enough?

Choosing a Material for Crawl Space

Hi Friends! I went into crawl space to make an observation of a condition of vapor barrier and I realized that it is in terrible state. It is some polyethylene sheeting with a lot of holes and it is very dirty, soiled with a lot of animal excrement, dirt, old trash, etc. So I decided to remove all f...

Please Help with Material Identification

Hi Friends! I have bought a mobile home. It is 1961 Trailoram. The all indoor walls here are finished with the same type of panels, I do not know if they are original from a factory or newer, but I want to do some repair around one window where they have some signs of water damage. I guess someone d...
