Re: Dead rodent odor

We just had the bathrooms gutted and the vanity cabinets are brand new with granite tops. Tearing them back out at this point isn't an option. I think I'll have to stick it out. Darn! Ick.

Dead rodent odor

We apparently have had a mouse (or vole, or...?) get up into the insulation under the master bath and die. There's nothing like waking up to the smell of dead "something". Hubby got under the unit and found nothing. He said there is a faint odor underneath, but nothing like what's coming up under th...

Re: Replacing the Skirting

Thanks Greg, I did find some posts on this on the Repair side. Since this is not a repair I didn't think to look there.
Still, anyone with any advice or experience? We can't seem to get enough advice on our projects and we appreciate it all.

Replacing the Skirting

I didn't find much on this subject, although I'm sure there must be a couple of threads somewhere. Anyway, we are considering replacing the "traditional" white skirting on our double wide with stone patterned, insulated skirting. I have found a couple of sites online where it can be purchased and we...

Re: My tahnklss water heater

Glad to see a post regarding this subject. After doing major renovations we have had some concerns about the hot water heater and the damage that would occur if it leaked. Apparently that has been the case in four homes this winter. Several people in our community have switched to the tankless (a co...

Re: My Bathroom Reno Process

I know you want to do this job once, but perhaps you could tape off the white panel around the tub and leave it white for now. See how you think it looks, then if you like it well enough you don't need to paint it. All in all, things look to be in pretty good shape. Our bathrooms were so awful that ...

Re: My Bathroom Reno Process

Too funny! Having just "been there, done that" I understand all those little roadblocks on the way to your decorating destination. Fortunately for us, the journey is over. Let me just reassure you that it's worth the trip. Good luck!

Re: Remodel

What a nice outcome...good job! The kitchen looks so sunny and inviting. We have also been doing a "makeover" and are almost done. The information I got here regarding painting the wallboard was immensely helpful. Hoping to move in by end of the year.

Re: Painting the walls

Thanks for some VERY helpful info regarding the tape, Dean. We painted primer and 2 coats of paint and let each coat dry well in between. Fortunately I had read your message before we started pulling the blue tape last evening. Sure enough, we had some small patches of paint pull off down to the pri...

Re: Painting the walls

We are using the blue tape. It is somewhat costly (thanks for the Dollar Store tip!), but since we are truly novices at painting it is saving the trim. We have yet to tackle the ceiling...all in good time. Meantime we have spackled, sanded, TSP'd, and primered the walls in the living room, dining ro...

Re: Painting the walls

Thanks for all of your tips...they have been extremely helpful. We have several projects going in the place so haven't progressed with the painting as quickly as I had hoped. But the carpet has been removed (HUGE job!) and the staples removed, making way for new carpeting throughout. The flooring un...

Re: oil base or latex primer??

Ah yes, the "scrape your fingernail" test. We tried that on our test wall on which the blue tape pulled off the primer and it's still coming off. We have one spot of TSP'd and primer coated wall that has not yet been painted. Once the primer has cured for the proper length of time might we still be ...

Re: Painting the walls

Ok, the home is ours! We closed on Friday and spent the weekend doing some little projects and preparing for the larger ones. We experimented on a bathroom wall (that will eventually be sheetrocked over) using the advice you all gave on painting the wallboard. We washed down with TSP...liquid concen...

Re: Painting the walls

Thanks for the tips. We close on the property in a couple of days and will want to get started on our projects soon. I'll most likely have more questions!
