Re: Ceiling patches
Chelsey, These are not pre-glued stick-on tiles. They just give instructions on how to either staple or glue them to the ceiling, using construction adhesive. They are kinda out of vogue, but I know you should be able to order them. They are made of a light fiberboard, but don't have the slick surfa...

Re: Roofing repair question JD or Mark?
JD, I'm weathertight, at least! The close hardware store was out of Z-flashing, and the truck was tied up, so here's what I did: Sealed the seams of siding to be covered with polyurethene, then installed the angle flashing under the roofing with the long side covering the siding. Under this is polyur...

Re: Ceiling patches
Hi, Chelsey! I love clear plastic for protecting walls. Use 1/2" staples in the gun, that should let them stand out enough to remove easily.I got about 300 sq ft of 12" glue-on ceiling tiles at the Habitat Re-store. Part of it will patch the holes, part will be a glue-on cover in bath and ...

Re: mice... how to get rid of them
Best mousetrap bait I have ever used is chunky peanut butter. Hook a chunk inside the barrel.
The first time I had mice I bought 2 traps, set them out in the morning, and emptied traps 7 times before I left for work. They are suicidal about the stuff!

Re: I HAVE BOYS!!!!!!
Try this: (This is for those of us that are door-hanging challenged) Take your floor-to-ceiling measurement in the area where the door needs to be replaced to the building supply and look at the pre-hung interior doors. If you are within the height needed to install, buy it and take it home. Gently ...

Re: Roofing repair question JD or Mark?
Weddings of children trump everything, don't they? Congratulations!! As usual, I bit off more than I can chew, so the roof still needs that attention. It was still in place when I got home this evening, so it's all good. Yes, the old siding is aluminum, and will become skirting. Most of the top sidi...

Re: water heater problems
Please note: I'm not recommending that you do anything that requires disconnecting wires, as the forum doesn't recommend doing your own electrical repairs for safety and liability reasons, which I respect. Check your breaker. It is common for one side to become weak and trip easier than it should, c...

Roofing repair question JD or Mark?
Hi, it's been a while. When I got into really repairing my trailer, we determined that the only thing that made sense was to take a Sawzall to small sections of the wall and cut it completely out (floor to ceiling) to rebuild with 2x4 walls. I don't use the factory aluminum wiring, so that 's not an...

Re: Leaking Rheem water heater
In that case I'm with Greg-- check your temp at the nearest hot faucet, adjust or replace thermostats as needed. Along with this, drain the tank sufficient to replace the t/p valve, remove it, clean and inspect the threads of the tank opening. It's possible that they have deteriorated so that it'll l...

Re: Leaking Rheem water heater
Replace the temperature/pressure relief valve. It is commonly found high up on the side of the tank, and should be connected to a pipe that would send that water into the drain plumbing or outside. I've seen them do things like this, or just seep leak for years. If it happens again soon after the va...

RE: Rainwater Collection .What are some ingenious uses for t
My 1500 gallon tank is the very next thing on my list. 15 years later, nobody raises an eyebrow at the idea of rainwater harvesting, except for once this summer when I got a "What rain?" reply. To be fair, we've had drought conditions going on for a long time... Austin, TX even sells low-c...

RE: New here, question about TSP and texture compound
Your finished wall is simply awesome!! It literally looks like veined marble, to me. Wow! Drywall joint compound is found in the lumber department, usually with the tools used to apply it. If you get someone that can't answer your questions, politely excuse yourself and ask the question again at the...
