Re: Questionable Electrical Wiring

Thanks guys, Yes, it would be nice if the manufacturer supplied a wiring diagram with the home, and these can be very difficult to find. It would be nice to be able to see through the walls, ceilings and belly tarp. I suppose they have devices now to see through walls, but probably pricey. Luckily I...

Questionable Electrical Wiring

Hello All, I like the look of the new forum...I haven't been here in quite some time...good to see the same dedicated forum moderators. I am still living in my 1985 Champion single-wide..22 years now, with no major problems lately. I did come across a disturbing switch wiring job...it was an attic f...

Re: What are these?

I have these speakers in my 1985 Champion, still functional. Two in the master bedroom and two in the living room on opposite sides of the ceiling. The radio/cassette unit sits in the upper portion of a cabinet between the dining room and kitchen.

Re: Better Quality Heat Tape For Water Riser?

I have a Frostex Plus self-regulating heat tape...going on 20 years and never had a freeze-up in the middle of cold Maine winters except when I lost power. Expensive, but well-worth it. You can find on eBay. Mine is not wound around riser but attached straight down one side and well-insulated.

Re: sealing ducts from the inside

Probably not worth it for any energy cost savings. I sealed all of my ductwork with tape and mastic several years ago and shoved some extra insulation at both ends of the ductwork...but seems it hasn't made much of a difference in my heating costs. Of course, here in the northeast the past two winte...

Re: what are Tie Down rods for: One purpose only or many?

I have the same cable tie-downs as Norm, embedded in my concrete slab. I did experience a moderate (5.0) earthquake centered in our town several years back with not much damage sustained to my slab or piers. The small cracks I had in the slab simply widened a bit and, of all things, my oil furnace b...

Re: Plumbing Help needed for elbow at water heater

Hot water lines are almost always more troublesome than cold lines, at least from my experience. Most of the failed aluminum crimp rings and shut-off valves I've found in my MH were on hot water lines, and most of the sediment build-up is always worse in hot lines. On the polybutylene pipes I have r...

Re: Plumbing Help needed for elbow at water heater

I had those same acetal elbow fittings on the inlet and outlet of my water heater. Mine cracked as well and destroyed my bathroom subfloor. To fix I used brass ball valve shutoffs followed by copper flex pipes, then a short length of pex tubing which I connected to my PB pipes before they went under...

Re: fasteners for 1/4" drywall

Thanks for the help gentlemen...I like the idea of attaching a piece of wood (1X3) either vertically with those toggle bolts or horizontally between studs, then simply drilling/boring out a hole in the wood to hold the metal drawer track in place...that way I can just throw away those crappy plastic...

Re: fasteners for 1/4" drywall

Thanks for the info. Ponch...I've never seen those type of anchors. The plastic plate I have to mount has multiple small holes(for 6-32 screws) on all four sides. If one or more of the holes breaks loose, of course the plate mount gets weaker until the whole thing fails. If I can adapt just one of t...

fasteners for 1/4" drywall

OK, I have the typical 1/4" vinyl-clad drywall in my bedroom. I also have built-in face frame cabinets along one wall and those crappy drawers with the center-mount metal tracks. Those tracks are held at the back of the cabinets with a plastic plate which is held to the drywall with just screws...

Re: Fireplace tips

My fireplace has a crossflow fan beneath the firebox...it's basically a long, rectangular fan which fits well in the small space there. You can probably find one to fit your application. My air inlet lever is open to the right and closed to the left...not sure if yours is the same. I don't have an o...

Re: Fireplace tips

I hear the blower going. But done feel any air moving. It's supposed to input through the button and blow out the top right? Yes, that is correct...the fan pulls air from the bottom vent and circulates it around the firebox, then exits warm air through the top vent. Mine has a variable fan switch o...

Re: Fireplace tips

So you find it better with the doors closed? I think I get more heat with the door open. Recently I've been having a smokey smell in my living room. But I think it's because my firewood isn't seasoned enough and just causing a lot of smoke. If I am sitting right in front of the fireplace, the radia...

Re: Fireplace tips

Assuming you have the prefab-type fireplace with the circulating fan beneath the firebox(which I have in my MH), all I can offer is the basic advice: Use seasoned(at least a year) wood, build the fire correctly, keep the glass doors closed for maximum heat, and clean the chimney at least once a year...
