Re: Removing battens next to popcorn ceiling

A short crown molding would be the easiest way, especially if you have a miter saw, however I scraped our popcorn ceilings and it really opened up the room. I am mudding over my battens, and because I removed the ones by the ceiling I also had to mud the gap between the ceiling and the wall. Mudding...

Re: Wall/batten refinishing question

I have the Magic Trowel you described in #9, but it gave me a hard time and I gave up on it, can you describe the process you used with it?

Re: why is my paint still sticky?

I think it was a combination of all of the above. I did really good prep and after I painted my walls with a good eggshell paint they're not tacky at all, I can't tell you how much I disliked the semi-gloss they had on there!

why is my paint still sticky?

we moved in last Nov., before closing the community painted the whole house a beige semi-gloss, well I can press my hand against the wall or lean against them and if feels like the walls are tacky... the paint isn't coming off or anything, but it's weird... any suggestions? (I am in the strip-removi...

Re: Replacing floor vent covers

thanks for all the replies, they affirmed my gut instinct, that as long as they're the right size I can use vent covers found in local stores... honestly I feel bad that she has some serious misconceptions about what you can and can't use when dealing with a manufactured home, but then again most pe...

Replacing floor vent covers

Before we bought our house, the community was having someone paint the walls and replace the carpets, etc. The woman who was in charge of the 'remodel' was having a hard time finding the vent covers for the floor vents, I have seen them in Home Depot and Lowes and told her to just get them from ther...

Re: Hindsight is 20/20

funny thing about that Denise, all the work I was doing was in a rental! *rolls eyes* to be fair, we were there for 4 years, and hadn't thought about getting anything bigger until recently, and then our new house just became available out of no where, so now the only work I'm doing is cosmetic... ex...

Hindsight is 20/20

so true. we just closed on our first (actual home)! we've been leasing-to-own our double wide, it's fantastic, but the one we found is holy grail. I stripped our current place apart, literally. And when thinking about touching up the new house, this is what I've learned from all I've done. #1: Reno ...

Re: Mesh or Paper?

thanks for replying Greg, why do you say the paper lays smoother?
I know there are a lot of types of mesh tape (cement board, mold, original, ultra thin, etc.) which one did you use?

Re: When I peeled back the vinyl paper...

before I even thought peeling the vinyl off was an option, I filled my seams with a really good caulk, that stays flexible, it was DAP 3.0 I believe, also any large gaps where my walls met the ceiling, and around my window frames (for extra insulation) I used Great Stuff foam, the blue can for Windo...

Re: When I peeled back the vinyl paper...

Hey Denise! Oh I've been sayin in my head that it better look like the Taj Mahal with all the research time it took me to find this out. When I removed the vinyl, I didn't use the regular little "Tiger" tool, I just used my utility knife and scored the surface into giant squares and rectangles, then...

Re: When I peeled back the vinyl paper...

that's true Trudi, I guess I thought damaged meant that the top layer of the drywall was torn, removed, etc., making it less, sound (I guess) than it would normally be.
But you're right, thank goodness I don't have missing chunks of drywall
