Re: Installing heavy ceiling fixture
Please resize your picture to an acceptable posting size. You are making me nervous! Just because you believe it can be mounted as you describe does not mean that is what the manufacturer or UL had in mind. 32lbs is not something you want suddenly falling off your ceiling. Everyone elses comments al...

Re: Mice in the wall
The snake ate the cat which ate the mouse. Cat, mouse, fleas, are all taken care of in one big gulp.
A quick trip to the Florida Everglades for a python and I'm all set. I hear they make great pets and also take care of those pesky dogs and kids.

Re: Mice in the wall
Norm has the best idea. No one I know in this park has a cat but there are a number of feral cats, huge bundles of fur this time of year. I leave a space, almost like a pet door, in my skirting for them to slip in and out of. Never seen signs of any other ground animals in the vicinity.

Re: Kitchen Backsplash
I agree with everything Greg S said except, @ 12.79 sq/ft, this does not equal "less expensive" in my book. Lots of "I love it" reviews from Home Depot customers. No, I would not use them.

Re: Snapit elec box replacement idea
Yeah, I think more than one person noticed the white wire comment among others. Sorry to say OP but you have numerous NEC violations which, in this case, are actually dangerous. White/neutral and green/ground are tied together at the panel or in a main shutoff or at the meter. By tying the ground an...

Re: Snapit elec box replacement idea
Do yourself a favor and replace them with standard boxes & switches/receptacles. My opinion is that the snap type should be banned, All it takes is one bad connection creating an arc to get a fire started. Why risk it? Greg As soon as I pulled one out of the wall, I knew they were gone! Replace...

Re: removing without hurting?
The trick with either one is keep them clean. The painters edge 24" stainless must be wiped clean after you remove it each time DO NOT SLIDE IT if the line is important. Just got done doing that on my living room trim. I can paint a dead straight line for just so long and then it's cheatin' ti...

Re: Electrical Boxes at Marriage Wall?
Yeah, a picture would be great but I'm sure it's the power feed between halves. What kind of problem are you having? This plug and socket connection can cause just about any problem especially on the side that the panel is not on.

OK, I'll stick around until April Ist. You're a lot closer to the lake so I would expect Buffalo amounts of snow there. I'm a native NY'er but they are expecting me back in ARIDZONA.Think weather exactly opposite of here. I don't mind the snow and cold but the heating costs are brutal. And let...

Re: Installing Cable wire for tv in home
Well, mine is 1907 vintage and they didn't even have satellite or cable when it was built. I've been living in and fixing this 1960's one up for a friend that will take over next month, then it's back to Sedona, AZ where I won't miss the official 9' of snow this year and -20F temps.

Re: Just a heads up- shovel off your shed roofs if needed
that advice doesnt just apply to cheapy shed roofs. it should apply to your homes roof as well to help prevent any ice build up at the edge and melting into your house Yes it does, and did. Just one tiny spot I almost didn't notice on the edge of the living room ceiling. I wasn't paying a...

Re: Installing Cable wire for tv in home
Wow, lucky you, they went under the trailer. In my case both satellite and the cable company ran the wires completely around the outside of the trailer to each room. When I removed it all and ran it from the central box and under the trailer, I had plenty of cable to spare. Yes, I did come up into t...

Re: 2xw studded walls. Multi-gang elec boxes.
I normally don't hang on to a thread this long but I knew I had seen those boxes somewhere. Local Home Depot has all the 1 1/2" and 2" boxes that my link showed, @ $2.39 each.

Re: 2xw studded walls. Multi-gang elec boxes.
So the inside of the wall is 2". That means the studs, or however the wall is built out, is not a standard size IE: 1 1/2, 2 1/2, 3 1/2. If you build a wall to match, you would have to use 2x2's and add another 1/2" somehow before you put up your wallboard. You're still stuck with finding ...

Re: 2xw studded walls. Multi-gang elec boxes.
Well, if you're going to build a new wall, why not use 2x3's and then you can find and fit in just about anything. A 2x3 wall gives you a usable in-wall depth of 2 1/2" plus the thickness of the face wallboard. How about a picture? I'm not understanding how you can see a wall "thickness&qu...
