RE: Who has Foremost Insurance?

Our home was destroyed by a tree. We have Foremost, and they were prompt and fair.

RE: metal roof or shingle

This is s single-wide mobile home with factory installed roof. The metal roof would be galvalum whatever that is. Shingle roof would be 20 year shingles. Not sure of the pitch. At times we have high winds during storms but not on a sustained basis. This is s Clayton home. Live in southern West Virgi...

metal roof or shingle

Planing on buying a new mobile home. Should I go with metal roof or shingle roof. Had a metal roof on old home (owned for 23 years) and although a few minor leaks over the years no real problems. I did coat it every other year with roof coating. Also siding, metal or vinyl siding? Sorry if I am in w...

Factory built fireplace

Thinking of buying a new mobile home and am debating about getting a fireplace as an option. Are these factory built fireplaces any good? Is there enough draw to keep smoke from entering the home? Are they safe? How much does it drive up insurance costs? I've got lots of wood, was thinking this coul...

Thanks Yanita, we had some insurance but not enough for a new model. Will look for a good repo or used one most likely. We own the property and will be back AFTER a massive tree cutting project. Should have cut those trees down years ago but it cost so much. Wish we had bit the bullet and done so th...

Home destroyed in storm

As a long time fan of this web site I have bad news and good news. Our mobile home was completely destroyed by a huge tree last Wednesday night during a severe wind storm. The good news, my disabled wife who is confined to a wheel chair and our much loved and spoiled Yorkie (named Scooter) were unhu...

RE: Electric fireplace

They look nice, but will heat no better than an electric space heater...because really thats all they are with the exception of the fake fire, which uses a bit more juice. As far as helping lower the gas bill, that wold depend on your cost per Kilowatt hr. vs. the cost
of gas.

RE: Roof repair elastometric vs DIY metal roof

I believe you can use Koolseal products over tar , but you must use a special primer that Koolseal makes to coat the roof first. I have not seen this primer at Lowes or H.D. but I think I have seen it on the Koolseal website. However, with the price of the primer (probably two coats) and the Koolsea...

RE: Putting up gutters and have a question

I have the same setup as you. When I put up gutters I found that you don't have to find studs because of the top cap of 2x4s on the walls. Just slip gutters under your J channel and you should be able to anchor your gutter braces into wood.

RE: Free heat in the winter?

Sound like a good idea, however how about all of the small particles of insulation dust that may be sucked out of the attic and into your home. Would be nice to recover some of the heat that is traped above.

RE: preventing condensation under new metal roof....2nd try.

You should not have a problem with condensation in my opinion. It is my understanding that condensation happens when warm air meets a cold /very cool surface or cold or very cool air meets a warm surface. You already have insulation in your roof that helps to prevent your original metal roof from ha...

I don't think you will have a problem with condensation. The foam insulation between the original roof and the new metal roof-over should prevent this.
