Re: Leaks around vent pipes

I would get up there and inspect as best I could to start. Be careful and you should be fine. Once you find what is loose, broken, leaking, etc. around the openings then the best plan can be figured out. Shooting from the hip the rubber collar for the flashing cap may be cracked as mine were.. I use...

Re: Site & forum update & face lift.

Since you are admittedly challenged with electrical and hvac then yes, leave it to the pros. Some of us, however, are far from challenged and do electrical and hvac, etc. for a living. This is a repair forum! There is no reason to censor the safety issues. You can easily make a fatal mistake perform...

Re: To caulk, or not to caulk....

I agree with Greg and ponch..

However, please take it a step further and use primer before you caulk. You won't regret this extra, easy, step.. It's found at contractor supply places and is worth it.. This is essential with exterior applications imo..

Re: Advice on Skylights

When I re roof I will get rid of my skylights. They're nice for sunlight but have a horrible r value and leak over time and cause headaches. My suggestion is if you are in a cold climate to get water and ice shield installed on your eves. Now is the time. A small price increase but you will never wo...

Re: Site & forum update & face lift.

I agree for the most part. But if the site gets upgraded there should be plenty of bandwidth to support multiple sections. The off topic section is too generalized for my taste. I'd love to give and get electrical and gas advice as the owner and admin are not liable legally. So there's kinda no reas...

Re: Site & forum update & face lift.

Awesome news. I'm all for the "show off your mobile and lot/land" etc, section. Also it would be nice to give and get electrical and gas advice. Maybe some outdoor sections like patio bonfires, hunting, offroading, fishing. How about a section to post some weekend vids on the quads or golf...

Re: Need help again friends - Septic Tank

I would verify I have no leaky toilets, faucets, etc. first.

Then I'd watch my daily water usage to buy some time. Maybe catch my grey water with a bucket under the sink, etc. I would get a few local expert opinions and go from there.

Re: Wall switch for ceiling lamp fixture

Yes you can just unscrew and flip. Turn off power from the box first if you do not know electric. Be careful not to twist wires, etc.

Not sure id trust rafa again if he didn't even get the orientation right. I'd check the connections and etc while I was in there myself...

Re: Homeowner Insurance claims

Talk to your agent. I just submitted a claim for my shed roof caving in. Weather related problems are not as concerning as other issues is what I was told. Adjuster came out and wrote me a check for the difference between deductible and depreciated amount.. I was also told that they don't cover any ...

Re: help with a well/pressure tank

im starting to get some very minute black speckles of what i think may be metal flakes from the hot water heater or the galvanized nipples on the water heater.. Im in the same boat. does your metal flake on the cold side too? if not its not the pressure tank and you have it narrowed down to the hot ...

Re: Electrical Box

if just the screw snapped off, cant you pull out the switch and get a long nose pliers in there and romove the section of the snapped thread from the box? Screw snapped off flush w/electrical box. the screw snapped off flush on the outside of the box correct? if this is the case there will be a lon...

Re: Electrical Boxes at Marriage Wall?

I would highly recommend replacing that connection since it was found to be loose. If all the electrician did was remove and replace the plug then it started working, it will spike resistance when used and could start a fire.

My .02 cents

Re: Electrical Boxes at Marriage Wall?

If I understand correctly- There's a red hot wire off one circuit breaker, another black hot wire off a different circuit breaker, and one common ground and one common neutral between them. The complete red circuit is dead and outlet tester shows nothing. Based off this info- 1. Do red circuits hot ...
