How big do I go?
Hi. I have a SW mobile in Phoenix that's about 960 sq ft. My husband and I are down here just for the winter (Nov-Apr) and it seems the AC has died on us. Not surprising as I'm guessing it over 20 yrs. Anyway we had a couple of guys come out and tell us we need a 3 ton unit. Reading some of the post...

Roof insulation
Hi. We have a 1979 single wide and unfortunately we are over the landing path of the airport. It has a flat coated roof . It's located in the Phoenix area so it doesn't really get cold but I'm wondering if it's insulated. Is there a way to tell? If it isn't, what can I do to reduce the noise?

Help: There's got to be an easier way
I've finally decided to start painting the paneling in our 79 single wide. The fellow at the paint store told me I should paint out the grooves first (with a primer) and then go over everything using a roller to apply the primer. I thought simple enough, except I've spent from 8 this morning to 8 no...

RE: Tiled ceiling
Thanks Greg. Don't relish the fact of painting with a brush. Maybe I'll just hire someone to do it. Digitaldreams The stain is a light brown and about a foot in diameter. It does look like it was a waterf leak that has now dried. The roof was checked and found to be okay. I'm guessing the previous o...

Tiled ceiling
Hi. I'm reposting this as the original message is locked. Anyway, I am going to be painting my ceiling. It looks like acoustic tiles but there isn't any strapping holding it up. There is a water stain by the back door so I'm guessing the roof leaked at one point. The stained area has lost some of th...

RE: i painted the ugly paneling
The painted paneling looks great. Did you wash the walls down with water after washing with TSP? Did you sand? Also, did you tint the Kilz the applsauce color? Did you apply one or two coats of paint on top of the Kilz?
Thanks
Thanks

Okay, now I get it. A picture is worth a thousand words. How do I find the studs?

RE: Painting the ceiling
I'll try uploading a picture of the kitchen which shows a bit of the ceiling. I'm not sure what it is.

RE: Tiled back splash
Thanks Greg. I'm not quite sure I follow you. Do you mean that you built up the wall (it wasn't strong enough to hold the tile) with 1/6's? So if the backsplash was 12 inches tall you have 2 1/6's? I don't understand where the 4 1/2" comes in.

RE: Painting the ceiling
There is one spot over the back door that you can tell was a water leak (from the roof probably). My mobile is in Phoenix and it's a rather old (1979). I'm slowing going to start fixing it up and I thought I'd start with the ceiling. I'm guessing the stain should at least be primed out. There are an...

RE: Vinyl wallboard
Thanks Yanita. There's vinyl wallboard in the kitchen as well. It is so 70's (fruits and veggies) that I wanted to install tile. Does this vinyl mean I can't install tiles as a backsplash?

Painting the ceiling
Hi. My single wide has a ceiling that looks like acoustic tile. Can this be painted? Do I have to prime first? Can I use a latex paint or do I have to use an oil-based paint? Thanks.
