Re: replacing thermostat

just hook up the "W" and "RH" as they are now. but actually don't think it maters which wire goes to which terminal. the thermostat just acts a switch closing the circuit. the other wires on newer thermostats control heat/cool and fan auto/manual on. I assume your furnace has tho...

Re: Coleman EB23b

seems like this furnace has been fighting you a few years. haven't seen anyone check that you've cleaned your a-coil. worth asking, cuz simply taking a shopvac to mine made a huge difference. also this sounds almost like a heat pump, but I don't think you'd forget to mention that. just trying to hel...

Re: 3rd switch @ front door

solved the heat tape outlet underneath last night! I decided I'd map the current electric while I had all the drywall up and before I started re-wiring to much. I finally pulled up the insulation behind the water heater and there was my line going down. (outlet is 10ft from heater where the main in/...

almost time to check and re-level, then framing and drywalling will commence.
thanks for the confidence boost guys!

Re: wall lag bolts

lol I know.. esp here in iowa where minimum code on stick built only requires plywood/osb 4ft from corners. the rest of the walls just have fiberboard insulating sheathing. Ive seen many a satellite dish drooping from them with only the vinyl siding holding them up..

Re: wall lag bolts

actually 16" center studded walls and floors! think the ceiling is on 24" center. I would say this is a katrina hud home, but it was built summer of 99 and a 2000 model year. there are also metal straps stapled between the outside wall and any interior framing even the closet(s) i tore out...

Re: wall lag bolts

oops, forgot the pictures.. lol (or maybe I can't upload them) these are by the bedroom doors on the interior wall. looks like they are only sunk into the floor joist, but also looks like they are directly over the beams. mbed is lagged over 1 beam, and the front bedroom is over the other beam (offs...

Re: sheetrock

rockwool insulation and greenglue sandwiched between 2 layers of drywall. the next overkill would be some hat channel between studs and drywall. (air gap between drywall actually amplifies sound) recently helped a freind build a recording studio in his basement. we are all researched up on soundproo...

wall lag bolts

I've seen references to tightening these lag bolts, but I am curious as to if I can temporary remove them to remove the wall so I can remove the dirty vinyl underneath and put my new vinyl down. unfortunately the previous owner was in a habit of locking the dogs in the bedroom for far too long and o...

Re: Floor squeaks

what kind of floor? if carpet you could pull up and put a few screws into the joists, otherwise you would probably have to get into the belly and glue & screw from underneath. but then again I've only had a mobile home for a month so maybe someone else has a cool trick.

3rd switch @ front door

Hello everyone! thanks for all the great info everyone shares! I have a 2000 holly park that was abandoned with pets inside so while the park had a dumpster for me I decided to completely gut flooring, cabinets, and the lower portion of drywall on all walls. lots of questions, but many have have bee...
