Re: Dealing with aging parents..

I've worked with a few folks on clearing the proverbial path and here is what has worked best. Regarding the big pieces: "I know of some folks who could really use that furniture after dealing with disasters, would you like to help them?" Then cart it off to Salvation Army, Goodwill, etc. ...

RE: Creepers?

Do you have a Harbor Freight store in your area? Lots of tools at various price and quality levels, great prices on basic wheelchairs and walkers. Wagons (garden and kiddie), some yard ornaments, AND, I know I have seen mechanics creepers there for decent prices! I don't work for them but I do call ...

RE: When Is A Mobile Home Too Old To Justify Major Repairs?

I'm relatively new to MH so someone with more experience will have to chime in. But here are my thoughts. Do you know the current value of your place? How much would it cost you to move into a home in better shape? Do you have insurance on it? You might want to chat with your insurance agent about h...

RE: Residential Locksmith Washington

I don't live in Washington, but here is my experience in another state.

I got recommendations from a local fire captain and had I not known him, I would also have called the local police BUSINESS number. Insurance agents may be able to help as well.

Best wishes to you.

RE: Fireplace Question.

You should check with your insurance company before doing a retrofit, they may have particular standards. I'd love to trade with you! I get very little heat from my wood-burning fireplace and I still have to worry about creosote buildup, critters in the woodpile and cleaning out ashes. I had a gas l...

RE: HELP/frozen pipes/ASAP]

Propping open the cabinet doors is good. Does she heat with a furnace? Get her to turn it up a few degrees, even at night. When I stopped turning mine down, the pipes stayed warm enough from the heating ducts not to freeze. I used my blow dryer aimed at the bottom of the plastic pipes under the vani...

RE: Silly question about mystery electical wall switch

The mystery switch in my bathroom turned out to be an outside light on the end of the house with no windows. It took me about six months to figure it out. But then maybe it goes to the fan in my old (stick-built) house. There was a fan but no switch, and it wasn't tied in to the ceiling light. Sigh,...

RE: Readers Digest...July issue...

Easy there! Keep in mind that Readers Digest makes its money on ads from the pharmaceutical companies. They want your blood pressure to climb so they can sell more little pills. Don't fall for it! Truly, I'm thinking that there is serious bias in the article, and for that matter the whole magazine. ...

RE: Economical and affordable cell-phone...?

Trac fone cards only work with Trac-fones, but you can buy minutes on line with a credit card for the same price or cheaper, with discount codes. You can even use the phone to buy minutes for the phone, but I do it on line. No need to run to the store, or drive, even. The store clerks don't always k...

RE: Economical and affordable cell-phone...?

I checked prices and availability of service and went with Trac-fone. I bought the phone for $25.00 (Motorola Flip phone V-170) and bought minutes on line. About $25.00 for a starter which is good for three months and can be kept active for $5.00 a month. They say no contracts, no hassles and they m...
