Re: Terminology & Function
I'll have to re-compose a reply offline, then cut, then paste - and dodge that idiotic facebook nag. Some sort of stupid timer dumped me....

Re: Troubleshooting home movement
I guess I better be happy that the frost line is only about 6" down here in north Texas!! lol! I've kind of settled on 21 x 21 x 5.5 poured pads (a 2x6 square form), with at least the bottom third of that below grade. I'll have to do some fidgeting at the ends of the i-beams as currently one en...

Re: Troubleshooting home movement
Was all ready to head into town to pick up some extra blocks/pads and a couple of jacks. Wanted to check the local supply (online)...but find the largest pad is only 16x16.....which kinda/sorta doesn't make sense to me. If the pad is only 16x16, and the assembled blocks are 16x16 - I'm not seeing an...

Re: 1980 Aluminum Siding - Cleaning for Paint
You can prep the aluminum for paint by spraying it with a 50-50 solution of water and vinegar. Spray it on, scrub where you need to (dirt, mold, etc.) then wash it off completely. Then use a leaf blower to 'dry' it thoroughly. Now - paint like a crazy person.! Once the aluminum has been etched and r...

Re: Outside electric panel repair
If worse gets to worse - you can always call the city (health and human services). Certain components MUST be in good working order for a house to be considered inhabitable. Of course, bear in mind doing so might unhinge the owner and they simply declare the property is no longer for rent.....

Re: Shower Install - Where to start?
If I didn't know better - I would think you were here! I have the exact same setup, and the exact same annoyance with the tiny water closet....I mean, shower. My "plan" is to avoid as much drain work as possible - which means finding an enclosure I can align to the existing drain and then ...

Troubleshooting home movement
With winter coming, was just kinda looking around down under to make sure I have no surprises. And, I did. On the northwest end of the house I have two ground spikes that are pulled up about 2-3 inches. After the "WTH" - I am trying to figure out how it happened, and then how to 'fix' We h...

Re: Needing some new stairs
I've never seen any 'pre-made' steel stairs for MH. That said - you might check CraigsList for your area for a welder who will give you a bid to build to your liking.

Re: Curse those cheap bathtub faucets
I don't think it is the spacing of the pipes so much as it is the holes cut in the plastic for the cheap MH faucets. Usually, hot and cold supply come from below into the controls (knobs)....then a single pipe up to the shower head. Of course, all of this is assuming you even have access from the ot...

Re: Cleaning Shower Stall
So far, it hasn't done anything noticeable to the plastic - but I use the purple de-greaser stuff from ZAP. The heavy duty stuff.
I dilute it into a spray bottle, spray it down, give it a brush/scrub down, rinse...and be done.

Re: Curse those cheap bathtub faucets
I had to replace one of my tubs with the Lowe's piece...and if I remember from the packaging, the 'warranty' was good only while still in the unopened original packaging. :D They are far worse than cheap. The one I replaced has held up so far...but when it does fail (there's no "if" about ...

Re: Barn Doors
I did something similar to a bedroom closet as it was a full 7ft closet with one tiny door. Bear in mind i have the tendency to overbuild. Got all my measurements for the opening size - and then kind of worked backwards from there. I ended up with framing studs (doubled up) on each end of the closet...

Re: Upflow vs Downflow Air: Seeking Opinions
Something I forgot to include above. Flex duct is - regardless of up or down flow - in and of itself less efficient than sheet metal ducting. The inner surface of the flex duct is distorted by the spiral wire wrap. I couldn't find a definitive source for calculating how much efficiency is lost in a ...

Re: Upflow vs Downflow Air: Seeking Opinions
Oh boy...you're gonna hate me for this! Mine is a down flow. Had all new compressor (outdoor) and exchange unit installed. All went well until: ~ blower motor died within 5 years. Part was under warranty, but I had to pay labor. While the new motor was being installed, the tech commented he had neve...

Re: painting a m/h
I believe sherwin williams has a direct-to-metal line of paints that are tint-able to any color you'd like. Still - surface prep is the holy grail of painting - especially exterior. You may also want to consider the usual primer, then topcoat scenario. In such, XIM (sherwin williams) works wonders. ...
