Re: Hey all you drywall gurus out there....

Thanks for the reply Housemedic! Now as far as how I fastened the drywall up. Everywhere there is a seam/joint on the drywall I sistered a 2X4 layed flat. So it's attached to a 3 1/2in. wide surface...not the usual 1 1/2in. edge like normal. I glued AND screwed it in place every 6 to 8 inches. I use...

Re: Hey all you drywall gurus out there....

If it is a textured ceiling and they are just cracks, try some paintable caulk. It will allow for some flex without cracking, PLUS NO SANDING!! Greg Thanks for the quick reply Greg but not a textured ceiling...just flat drywall. I thought about putting some paintable caulk in the cracks before re-t...

Re: Safe method of work on sub-floor?

Just a note here fellers. I've done it like DaveyB mentions and I'll warn ya...be really...really careful doing it this way! Especially if you don't have a lot of upper body strength...like most of us ole codgers. I got tired of chiseling and grabbed the circular saw and did just what Davey said and...

Re: Dealing with aging parents..

Part 3...the lighter side. Folks, I find it theraputic to find humor in the most odd circumstances so here's a funny (to me anyway) tidbit. Mom was down in the I.C.U. recently and outside her room the doctor on call was raising holy ++++ about the old, overweight woman in room 118. He was quite voca...

Re: Lawnmower maintenence 101....arrrgghhh!

Well now since I had the compressor I deemed it a good day to also clean up the engine bay of the old rider. Lifted the hatch and figgered it best to pull the engine shroud an do it right. Fortunatly Briggs&Stratton makes this easy. Remove 4 bolts and 568 sheet-metal screws (all of which are dif...

Lawnmower maintenence 101....arrrgghhh!

Well folks spring has sprung here in south-central Pa.!! Copious amounts of rain and the occasional sunny day and the yard is outpacing my feeble attempts with the poosh mower so today I decided to get the rider fired up. Bein's as this is the first time this year hadda do some maintenance. Both fro...

Re: The power of prayer....:)

So there I am....second time in a millenium it's gone down to 3 degrees. Knowing what'd happen if I used the toilet....I vowed NOT to use it till it warmed up. Good plan..poor execution. By about 8a.m. I'm startin' to sweat. By 8:15....I'm gettin' some serious cramps. By 8:30..it's obvious this ain'...

Well folks a few moments to spare today and since Yanita seems to enjoy seeing me in horrible situations I had to add an update to the story. One week.....one lousy week after the frozen sewage drain incident.....I'm driving home at 6a.m. and watch the temp. thingy on the dash of the Toyota and it's...

Re: Attic condensation problem

Kevin, I've seen this before! Some time when ya get a chance type "condensation" in the search area and my name should come up. LOTS! :) Anyways, I went to Lowes and bought the biggest attic fan I could fit into the south gable of my attic. Then bought the same size louvered vent and whitt...
