RE: Finding handyman..

M'am....I'm sorry I live so far away. I regret that I have no secure answer but do not be discouraged. On reading some previous posts I saw where one of our friends had a plumbing problem that she could find no answer for and suddenly.....a plumber arrived..with the exact correct parts in hand! Go f...

RE: Well / tank/switch again

bqz I'm gonn'a poke my ample nose in here and try and offer up some possibilities. First off..them pressure switches are reasonably inexpensive and that's where I'd start. It may/may not be the problem however. Now..do you have a pressure gauge near the pressure-switch in this system? I'm assuming t...

RE: Newbie from BC - exterior wall improvements and siding

Folks I'm gonn'a jump in here and say that.."Yes you can!" and I've done it. First off, I have a 1970s.w. of poor manufacturer and yet I've made some major improvements. In my livingroom I once had one of them big bow-windows that (literally!) fell out into the flower-bed some years back. ...

RE: Water Heater Replacement

ddblance I'm going to back up a few posts here and answer one of your questions. "Wouldn't a 30amp. clothes dryer circuit be enough to service a hot water heater?" Yes. A normal electric hot water TANK heater...less than 60gal. I'm not sure why you want to go tankless. Are they that much m...

RE: Help leaky windows

Folks there just ain't no easy fix. Since the original post was concerning the old crank-out windows I'll start right there. In time the caulking around the alum. frame dries out and since we have no eaves on these homes..rain runs down the outside walls and into the interior. Walls and window frame...

Tiny let me offer up a few thoughts here in an effort to help. First and foremost when dealing with contractors or handypersons (yes..wimminfolks do this too!) ask your friends and neighbors. Don't be bashful about walking right in and talking to a homeowner as they are having some repairs/work done...

Aye Greg, Grove Manufacturing in Shady Grove, Pa. is now owned by Mantiwoc!! Not to be confused with JLG Manufacturing in MC'Connelsburg (not MC'Connellseville, Pa.!) John L. Grove actually started the factory (Grove Manufactury) "way back when" to make simple farm trailers to haul hay and...

Folks something I noticed in Jims photo is there is no connection nor support at the gable end of this job other than the "icicle Christmas lights" at that end of the home. Yup...he's framed in for the new windows..there's no connection at present between the gable end and the outside wall...

Aye folks I don't know what it is with menfolks and machinery...it just is. I've run crawlers, loaders, back-hoes and cranes. Spent more'n a few hours in R&D on lifts and pickers and hoists. (Grove Manuf. 1989/90..employee #14639..welder stamp 1I.) ) I was one of the first to drive the Grove 912...

Aye Jimbo..good on ye! Glad to hear all went well and rest assured you did the right thing! Pullin' a well is no fun and cuttin' corners just results in more work somewhere down the road. Usually at a most inconvient time..eh! Give yer helpers a "high-five" from me and a tip-o-my-hat for w...

M'am I'm gonn'a jump in here and say that first and foremost it would pay you to buy the book and see how these homes are built and perhaps more importantly... how to repair them. Depending on the age of your home and who built it and how severe the damage is..replacing the floor may/may not be an e...
