Break out the 3-in-water again.

Re: Blower is squealing
I would have oiled it too, though I use a heavy weight oil instead of 3-in-water. I keep synthetic gear oil around for moving things that get squeaky.

Re: Master Bathroom Remodel Blueprints
Regarding your code question, I'd bet if you called a local electrical contractor they would know protection methods for service panels. Do not take this as electrical advice, just information. NFPA 70A (NEC - National Electrical Code for 1 and 2 family dwellings) states the following: 312.2 Damp an...

Re: How is it done??
Either way is possible. If you go from below, either cut a square and frame in an access hatch or cut your hole and tape it back together. If you come from behind the stove, be careful of wires in the wall. You could just frame back an access there as well when you're done. If you plan on going back...

Sounds much easier to verify 2 rather than delete 148.

Re: Do you think this is how fires start?
Not a heat pump, straight electric - Nordyne E3EB-017H Not sure about the wire gauge, but the upper service breaker feeds the blower and two 5 kW heat strips. The bottom breaker feeds one 5 kW strip independently. I've been running with LO fan speed and the bottom breaker OFF because the furnace bla...

Do you think this is how fires start?
The lights flickered slightly yesterday morning as we were getting ready, and when I came home and inspected why our furnace wasn't working, here is what I found. Upon seeing this, I decided to check the connection of the lugs and all of them were under-tightened. Each required 1/2 to 1 full turn to...

Re: Intertherm E3EB-015H Register Temperature
Oh be careful. If your unit is running that much continually and the elements ARE working, you will be in for a VERY unpleasant surprise when your power bill comes. How cold is it where you're located? I would block off that vent. The air discharge temperature is low by probably 20-30 degrees, but s...

Re: Finished insulated skirting just in time!
Would it be better to do this on the interior vapor barrier, or the exterior? Interior. Based on the fact that you already have snow, I am assuming you are in a mild/cold climate. The high(er) vapor permeable barrier (vapor retarder) should always be installed on the warm side of a wall assembly. P...

Re: Finished insulated skirting just in time!
Another idea would be to puncture some small breathing holes in the interior vapor barrier with a pencil lead.

Re: Moisture on windows
Is the front of the house facing North? Where are you located? What kind of furnace do you run? I purchased a digital hygrometer to help determine the operation of our HV/AC system. It also proved valuable when I decided to vent our electric dryer to the indoors during the winter to offset the dryin...

Re: Could use a little help with bathrooms
I have to remove our shower screen every 3-6 months to pull out the soap scummy bundle of hair that gives you a foot bath like you describe. It is usually hanging to the screen by just a few hairs. When I waited too long, I had to snake it because the clog disconnected from the screen and slid down ...

Re: A question about a clogged kitchen sink drain line
I would stick to the manual method personally. Relying upon a caustic substance was never encouraging to me. I had a clog in the master bath that required multiple tries of jambing, twisting and spinning a snake before working it through. If you have a cleanout below your sink, then I would get back...
