RE: Central Air Vs. Window Unit

I also live in California, between San Francisco and Sacramento, where it can get quite warm for days at a time. I have an evaporative cooler on the roof that cools my 1500 sq. ft. double wide really well. I wouldn't change to central air for anything. Using ceiling fans and slightly opened windows ...

RE: Paintable wallpaper?

When I purchased my '73 dw about 8 years ago it had really dark, ugly paneling throughout. I used a paintable wallpaper that both HD and Lowes carried at the time. It was the greatest. It took me a while, but I wallpapered every room in my house, including kitchen and both bathrooms. I didn't need t...

RE: Insulated Roof Pictures

I have had this roof on my dw for about 4 years now. It was pricey in the beginning, but it has certainly earned it's price. It is not only nice looking, but very efficient. I use my hvac a lot less than I did the first 3 years in my home. I would highly recommend it if you can possibly get it in yo...

RE: MORE SNOW AGAIN (ARGGH)

I guess I am pretty lucky here in No. CA. - my gas and electric for my 35 year old home, mid-Nov to mid-Dec, was only $110.00. We have had some pretty cold temps also, down in the low 30's at night and only up to low 50's during the day. The insulating does help. We have dual paned windows, insulate...

RE: Kitchen-Aid Mixers...an epihany!!

Oh my Audie, I am so sorry that this happened to you, but I must say that I truly enjoyed the fit of laughter I had reading about it. You can tell an amazing story, with so much humor that I find myself waiting for you to have "mishaps". Thank you so much for sharing your experience. Have ...

Ok Old Fart, I'll bite - how do you know the mixer will grab the bag and sling it?

I love your stories and wouldn't pass up this opportunity for another one!

RE: Happy Thanksgiving

Harry,

Can you share the formula for the Coke and brown sugar glaze? I have a 7lb spiral cut ham that I would love to try it on.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Jeff,

The video was terrific - thank you for sharing! What type of brush did you use (and where can I get it)?

Trying Not To Get Excited Here.....

Just saw gas drop below the $4 mark here in No. CA! One place was $3.99.9 and another was $3.95.9. It has certainly been a while since we've seen that.

RE: Filling holes in hardiboard siding

I used a paintable silicone caulk to fill the numerous screw/nail holes in my siding that were left by the previous owner. I cut a hole in the tip of the caulk tube just slightly smaller than the screw/nail hole and placed the tip just into the hole and squeezed the caulk, wiped it smooth and let it...

Mokehillannie,

I went to www.hgtv.com and did a search for "southwestern style decorating" and came up with 76 hits. I looked a some of them and it shared ideas, some pics, etc. Might be worth a try.

RE: mobilehome rebate for repairs

A rebate would be wonderful, but I have never heard of this. There were some tax advantages to energy saving upgrades (windows, insulation, etc.), but I have not heard of rebates for repairs. What is/was your source of information?

Harry,

My Azaleas have been blooming since before Christmas. We had some very cold days (25-28 degrees) and some pretty heavy frost and my plants seemed to thrive. I am sure yours will do just fine. Gorgeous pictures!

RE: Kitchen "remodel" on a shoestring

Koiflowers, Great job! You are very creative. I love doing this kind of thing and have done some similar things in my '73 DW. I am now helping daughter get her new (to her) house ready to move into. Her kitchen cabinets are in dire need of some help, so just might give your methods a try. I have use...
