Re: skin the cat another way.....

Hi Brenda -- Unfortunately, the closest MHPS is 90 miles away. (And after that one, the next closest is 265 miles away!) I did call. No help. A law was passed in this state requiring all MH repair folks to have a special contractor's license specifically for MH. In my town, no one will do it. And gr...

RE: give it away or demolish

To Demolition --- I tend to avoid using inclusive words -- anything that means "all" as it is rarely accurate. You referenced Habitat for Humanity, saying they were snobs. I was on our HH board for many years. I don't think I am a snob. We also did take mobile homes.

Tub Plumbing Question: Simple (I think but don't guarantee)

Hello All -- Need to connect a 1 1/2inch black plastic p-trap to a 1 1/2 inch copper overflow pipe. MUST use a flexible plumbing pipe. 1. Has anybody used pex pipe to do something like this? Would you? Any alternatives to pex? 2. To connect, best to use crimp or adapters? BTW, I called every plumbin...

RE: give it away or demolish

Is there a university nearby? Seriously, go post flyers there or look at the university site to see if there is an online student bulletin board. College kids buy mobiles like sardines flocking to join a school. (Oh boy, was that bad.) I am looking for a new cat to replace my wonderful kitty, Snuggl...

RE: Continuing Saga: Help Needed New Tub Install

Laughing here. Thanks so much for the smile. That, and a shower, is needed. Luckily, I can telecommute for work, so I am working at home this morning.

Per my prior post, anybody purchased the drain kit from mobilehomeprepair.com? Have to get one today.

RE: Continuing Saga: Help Needed New Tub Install

oh gawd, I don't think I want to mention "go for entire remodel" to my male friend who is helping. He told me yesterday that he almost walked out but decided that since he had committed that he would stick it out. We did have one success yesterday -- the tub went into the alcove. No hookup...

RE: Continuing Saga: Help Needed New Tub Install

Well, this tub adventure could make a short story.

The tub that was removed was 54. The tub that is going in is 54.

And guess what, the tub won't fit. Measured and remeasured. 54.

So, now we are removing walls for what I thought would be a slip-in.

RE: Continuing Saga: Help Needed New Tub Install

Well, dang ..not in a good mood! ... the install of the high end (expensive) trip lever/drain will not work. The pipe from the overflow is about three inches away from the air exhaust pipe. Some massive changes would have to be done to install a trip lever and overflow. Called a plumber friend/biz o...

Is there any reason we can't use duct tape to repair a tear in belly wrap?

Continuing Saga: Help Needed New Tub Install

As the installing of the new tub story continues, I must admit that this is MUCH MORE work than anticipated. For any other newbies attempting this, consider yourself forewarned! We are now at the hardest part, from what others have said and I now believe, and need some advice/help before proceeding....

RE: Metal tubs

Thanks for empathizing and for the good counsel. I think I'll encourage just a quick peek to see what's wrong. I'm not sure how the wax ring letting go would cause the problem. I do wonder about that bolt and the flange. Seems odd that this would happen. Damn, I keep hear him saying "uh oh, uh ...

RE: give it away or demolish

I did the craziest thing one time -- but it worked. I ran an ad saying that I wanted to develop a list of people who wanted to buy my place when it came onto the market in four or five months, after renovation work. I was flooded with inquiries and people, oddly enough. Maybe try this idea in an ad....

RE: mobile home+land mortgage companies

I live in a very rural area. Surprisingly enough, no bank here will finance land only. You can only finance it through the bank if it's a land/home deal. Also, all banks in this area have completely stopped lending on mobile homes that are to be located in a park. You can only get financing if it's ...

RE: Metal tubs

Update: I applied the foam to the bottom and sides of the tub, leaving the drain area open and allowing for extra space under the tub for air flow. Thanks so VERY much for the help and conversation. I cannot even imagine returning to the pre-net/pre-forum days; how did people work without access to ...
