Can I cut the bottom off entry door?

We just had new carpeting installed in our MH. Unfortunately, the entry door can not swing back fully because the new carpet blocks it. The carpet can not be cut without messing up the whole job. (We have a large porch attached to the front of our MH and you walk through the porch to the MH entry do...

infestation of asian lady bugs - help!

We have our MH in a rural spot and use it as a vacation get-away destination. We do not use it from November to April. We have a serious problem with the asian lady bugs. When we arrived this week, there were hundreds of the bugs in almost every room. We have it somewhat under control now using a va...

shared water well contract - help?

My neighbors (my nephew and his wife) and we had a new water well drilled last spring for our two vacation cottages. We both draw from the well but agreed that since they are at their cottage significantly more than we are and draw a lot more water than we do, that the electric for the pump would be...

Re: Exterior Paint Recommendation

I used both a Baer primer on the first coat and a Baer exterior latex on the second coat. The siding was done in a flat finish and the trim is a semi-gloss.

Re: Exterior Paint Recommendation

I painted our MH a year ago and it turned out great. I used Bear paint from Home Depot. I used a primer for the entire first coat and had the primer tinted the same as the finish color. After applying the primer coat, the finish coat went on easily and looks great. The biggest part of the job was th...

How long does a MH last??

We bought a mobile home as a vacation property 3 years ago. We own the land and it is in a nice location on a river. We are in Iowa with hot summers and cold winters. We do not use the property in the winter and have the MH winterized. We are on a dirt lot with no paving. We have put several thousan...

RE: Which waterpipes get heat tape?

Dean, Thanks for the reply. We are on the Wapsi near Anamosa and our pump is on a hillside about 10 feet below our MH. We have a sandpoint for our water. The pipes from the pump are underground to our MH and then come up and bring the water to various locations (bath, kitchen, outside faucets etc.) D...

Which waterpipes get heat tape?

I am still pretty much of a MH newbie but am continuing to learn. I am trying to learn and understand about winterizing our waterlines. Where do I actually use the heat tape? I have read the article on the topic but need to know which lines actually need the tape. Is it the lines that are outside an...

RE: sand point water source - air in line?

This is new to me and a good learning process. I guess the well people will continue the education. How do you know how deep to go with the sandpoint? The river level is low but not historically so, according to locals. Perhaps it is normal to have these problems when the river is like this. Right n...

RE: sand point water source - air in line?

Folks,

Thanks for taking the time and interest to help with this. We are away from our MH right now, but the well guy will be there when we return. My dear wife especially thanks you.

Any further opinions are welcome.

RE: sand point water source - air in line?

Aaron, I haven't checked for leaks on the sandpoint side of the pump. There are none that are visible. Actually one of my neighbors said he is having an air problem. The sandpoint, I believe, is 18' deep. It might be 24'. I remember hearing both. I can't figure why the water table would be lower. Th...

RE: sand point water source - air in line?

We did not have the well or pump inspected after the flood. The air seems to be present whenever the water is turned on. Sometimes it may not be immediate. There is a faucet for a hose right at the pump. This too has air in the water flow. The other main line goes to the holding tank for the house. ...

sand point water source - air in line?

Folks, Our water comes from a sandpoint well type of source. We live on/above a river. We struggled with the June floods (Iowa) which didn't reach our MH thankfully. However our pump was submerged. When the water went down - way down - I let the pump dry for several days and it turned right on. The ...
