Awning Post Repair

Hi All, I have one of those Aluma wood awnings over my driveway. It is attached on one side to the home and on the other side it is supported by eight 6 x 6 posts. The posts owe me nothing. They have held up for almost 40 years. I have no idea if they were just a good Douglas Fir or plain old pressu...

Duct Work

Hi All, Lighting the pilot on my Coleman furnace is always, an interesting affair. Last year I broke the plastic knob and that just made it even more challenging. I can't share enough words of caution on this subject. If your town offers a furnace turn on service, use it. My hair and eyebrows will g...

Partially Cut Wire

1016161742.jpg Hi All, Been cutting down a palm tree for the last 5 days. It's down and done. I cut and reworked PVC pipe for the irrigation system but in my haste, partially cut a 12-2 ufb electrical wire. One side is open, the other side has the outer coating in tact. The wire is buried in the gr...

Cement Fountain

0914161626.jpg Hi All, I'm repairing a cement (very heavy) fountain. The bowl is 42 inches around. (see picture) In the middle of the bowl is a hole, it's supposed to be there. I put a piece of pvc pipe in the hole, for changing the pump whenever it breaks. I need to cement around the pvc pipe, to ...

A Jackhammer sound

Hi All, As if the 118 degrees isn't enough, now a new noise is being added to the mix. When I go by the second bathroom, up by the vent, you'll hear the on and off, for about 4 seconds, the percussion of a jackhammer. After 4 seconds, it stops. Then a few minutes later, it happens again. Normally, a...

Mobile Home Insurance

Hi All,
silly me. I forgot to get mobile home insurance for the last 9 years. I need to get it but can't find any insurance companies that cover mobile homes. I live in an earthquake area of California. So I want everything covered. Can someone make a recommendation?
Thanks,
Dave

A hole in the roof

So I got one of those fancy video surveillance systems. Hooray! Installation was going slow but steady. A 3/4 inch spade bit and now I have a 3/4 inch hole through the roof floor and the shingles. Help!
What should I do?
Thanks in advance.
Dave.

Re: What type of saw would you use?

Thanks for the suggestions. As much as I don't like using a circular saw, I'm going to go that way. The 3 day sale at HF starts tomorrow and they have one on sale. CHEAP! It doesn't come with a blade and the kids that work there are more concerned with posting selfies then knowing the products they ...

What type of saw would you use?

Hi All, I've spent 3 hours, outside in 119 degree heat, sawing wood. Let me expand, cutting 1/4 the way through a 6 x 6 wood post. Not fun. The issue is the type of saw I'm using. It's a nice hand saw I got at the 99cent store. I've gone through 3 of them. I know out there, a better saw must exist. ...

Water main shut off

Hi All, The main water line into my trailer has an old style round faucet handle as the shut off valve. I guess between it's age and our mineral rich water, it doesn't shut off the water. This was a major problem when I was changing the whole house water filers. It needs to be changed to one of thes...

Something like one of these but in shower plumbing size. They act independently to attach and adjust.

Re: New Shower Head

I found someone else asking the same question but in a more technically accurate way. Is the female end (nut end) free spinning? - Can you tighten it onto the existing pipe (shower arm) without spinning the whole extension arm? A: No - it is not free spinning - you need to spin the whole arm to tigh...

Re: New Shower Head

Hey Greg, this is the shower arm. Now picture the shower arm must stand at 12o'clock. The problem: the part that attaches to the water line that comes through the wall to the shower arm. Both are fixed nuts, so when screwing it on, I can't adjust it. They make a dual threaded or threaded adjustment ...
