Re: Building a new deck

We want to build a 5 x 8 covered deck by the front door of our mobile home,, to do this do we need a building permit or have it inspected? Or can we go ahead and build it ourselves? We live in Beaufort SC Usually if it's below a certain height, you don't need a permit or anything. That was the case...

Re: Ditching the furnace?

I did that a couple years ago because mice had pretty much destroyed it down below. Most will bring up the freezing water lines that run along the furnace ducts as an issue.

Re: Grounding a generator

I never heard it has to be 1 foot above ground, just pound it down enough for a stub to attach a ground clamp to(buy it at lowes etc). Also use a thick copper bare wire(unstranded), not stranded wire.

Re: mice=best

I know what you mean, I hate em too. First noticed them in the crawl space Oct 11, and been fighting them ever since. Over a hundred dead mice later, haven't caught one under there for over a month now, but it still smells terrible down there from previous ones dying. One thing about the screens in ...

Re: How thick should I make the floor?

why not go with OSB for the first layer, which is considerably cheaper and just as strong, and then a layer of plywood on top of that.

Re: mice deterant

Hey Guys I thought it might be a good idea to try mouse traps. Simple, inexpensive and they get the job done. What say ye? I've completely sealed my crawlspace and they still manage to get in there. I now concentrate on the outside and use ABS pipe with poison bait screwed in the middle, seems to b...

Re: Deck repair question

are you sure that's pressure treated? looks untreated to me. I've used both and haven't had that problem. Maybe you just have a bum piece of wood. also make sure it's screwing to a flat surface and not bowing in the middle.

Re: Rodents getting in past cinderblock skirting

also, if you do use poison, your wife will know. As you're sure to have dead mice down in the crawl space. Whatever you do just be diligent and don't let up, they can do alot of damage.

Re: Rodents getting in past cinderblock skirting

I too live in WA state and have been dealing with this problem since Oct. I have the same skirting and same situation. My skirting had screen similar to window screen, so the mice walked right through that. Once I sealed that up with metal mesh screen, they kept finding new ways. Finally I had every...
