Re: Skirting Vents

Thanks, pretty much what I thought, as long as cold air isn't blowing directly on the pipes I should be good. Not in a park, this is on our own land, so we're free to do as we want. I may look into the screen panels idea, in fact I think I may have just the thing, you jogged my memory. Eventually I ...

Skirting Vents

We bought our mini home and moved it to our lot last year (New Brunswick, Canada - close to state of Maine). We put OSB around it for skirting (cheapest option due to necessity), and because it was late fall didn't put vents in it as we didn't feel it was needed for winter. Of course, now it's summe...

Building a porch / mud room

We're considering adding a porch / mud room to the front entry of our MH, probably 8' x 10'. This would be on deck blocks or similar, set up on posts, very simple, but insulated. Going to use standard 2" x 6" construction, fibreglass insulation, exterior sheathed in OSB, then tar paper and cedar shi...

Re: PEX connections

Here's my $0.02, as I just re-plumbed the whole home, and replaced copper with pex. At first I bought one of those cheap crimpers that need vice-grips to crimp with. It was on sale for under $20. Big mistake. Almost every crimp leaked. Then I broke down and bought the good crimpers, never had a prob...

Re: Moisture on windows

If the moisture is on the room side of the windows there is an excessive amount of humidity in the home, a Dehumidifier will help. If the moisture is between the windows, there is air leakage between the windows. This is very common with the old style "Trailer" crank out windows, the best fix for t...

Dampness on inside wall

We discovered a problem, not sure where it's from. There was a musty smell coming from one of the kid's bedrooms. There is a double bed in that room, it's one of the high mattress types, and it was up against an outside wall lengthwise. Pulling it away from the wall we discovered what looks like con...

Re: Cheapest house in town, My house.

That's quite the reno you got going on there. Might have been easier to build a new one :D

Hey, is that possible? Can you build your own MH on site? Like, no foundation, just regular blocking, maybe in a park. Just curious, never heard of it.

Re: Shower faucet problems

just my amateur $0.02, but if you have that removed, and the water is not spraying out of your faucet with the rest of the water in your house on, the problem is further up the line so to speak.

Re: Mobile or Mini?

I know of a few around here in the late '90s vintage, that are standard house style construction, and that come on wooden beams, transported on a float. They can still be set up in parks, on blocks, with regular skirting and not put on a foundation. They are called "mini" homes. The "modular" homes ...

Re: Kitchen Sink - veggie sprayer

Faucets aren't too bad, couple of things to watch for though; make sure you seal around the base of the new faucet with silicone caulking, make sure nothing leaks underneath and into your counter top. Also you may find a faucet wrench comes in really handy if you can borrow one (or buy one if cheap ...

Mobile or Mini?

I think the distinction between mobile & mini homes is vague, and the line is a but blurred when talking about different things on this site, so I'm wondering what the differences are, if any. Take my place for example. It's a 1987 3 bedroom 66' x 16'. It has a full steel frame, with lugs for 4 axle...

Re: Kitchen Sink - veggie sprayer

Usually you have to buy a new tap set that includes the sprayer, and replace your current taps. The sprayer connection is part of the tap set as it's always under pressure.

Avantech if you want to avoid rot. 1 layer will do it.

Re: Floor Joist not 16" on center

Mine and most others around here (Canada, so cold) come with insulation between the joists, and then some under if needed for plumbing. I.e. I had a bulge in the belly canvas down the centre of the home where there's an additional layer of insulation under some pipes. If all of your plumbing is insi...

"Rent-to-own" as a seller

I think there might be some people here with experience, I'd like to open a discussion on this. We're getting everything finished up in our home, and when we're done we'll own everything outright, including the 3.5 acres of land. That means we'll have a whole bunch of equity sitting here doing nothi...
