The furnace hasn't been used in years. When I called about getting a LP tank, I was told the furnace had to be inspected first. How can I even find out if it works without a fuel source? are thier adapters so I could test it with a tank from a grill?

Hi,

Did you ask what was needed in the inspection ? Most likely wanting the heat exchanger inspected for cracks and all safety switches tested to ensure they still work.

Would not advise hooking to a small grille tank.

Thanks,
Robert

well, I like to know if the furnace works before springing for a tank. If I need to spend money on major furnace repairs, I'd just get an outdoor wood boiler.

You said you called about an LP tank and wondered how to know if it works without a fuel source.

Get the inspections I mentioned and see if anything else needs doing in order to get an LP tank.

Then do what you were going to do to begin with.

You can remove burner(s) and inspect them.

Get heat exchanger inspected.

Power up blower and booster motor and electrical components.

Most all components can be tested without fuel to see if they work or not.

Thanks,
Robert
