Nordyne-P3RC036K-won't turn on heat or cool

Was working fine now it won't turn on at all. Have a Honeywell RTH 230B thermostat less than 6 mos old.
It shows the flame icon when you set it for heat and the snowflake when it's set for cool, but nothing happens.

Ser# P3B020802015, if you need it.
Ideas? Thanks.
Ross

Hi,

Nothing will come on except when t-stat is set for Cool. Go outside to A/C unit and look closely to see if the t-stat wire coming from home to unit has been pulled loose or chewed through.

If you have a meter, test across Contactor side coil terminals for 24-28vac.

Inside at t-stat, remove cover(s) and see if you have 24-28vac across the R and Y terminals.

Take care and best wishes,
Robert

Robert, thanks for the reply. It works! Did as you said, chkd for 24 volts etc. Got zero. then chkd for 240 v, got zero.
Went out to the main, 240v into the breakers zero out. Looked at the breakers before and they were on, still looked like it. Flipped them off & on & voila, it works.
A duh...on my part. Never thought to check the most basic thing of all.
Thanks again!
Ross

Robert, one more bit of info. The circuit breaker, on an outside pole, tripped again "after" the air con shut off. It only did that the first time, after I flipped the breakers and has been fine since. Maybe a possible problem with the circuit breaker or something in the Nordyne?
Wife mentioned it did the same thing when we had the heat on. That was the last time the unit worked untill I flipped the breakers today.
Thanks again,
Ross

Hi Ross,

Wouldn't hurt to replace the circuit breaker, they do sometimes go bad.

Also could be a loose lug at main power connection in service panel box on pole.

Be VERY careful out there, alot of people have been seriously injured or killed at those poles.

To know more would require checking amperage draws and thoroughly testing circuit.

IF there's any problem with the unit itself, a top suspect would be the compressor.

Take care and best wishes,
Robert

Hi Robert,

Thanks for further tips....and yes, I will be very careful with the high voltage....don't want to get welded! :D
So far, the breaker hasn't tripped.
