We have an intertherm ultraflex electric furnace model
# FEH-010HA-03 in our mobile home. When we put the safety switch in and cut the furnace on it heats up and smoke comes out from around the switch and fuses. We have changed the fuses and cleaned around the area. What could be causing this and how can we fix it?

Hi,

Are you referring to a disconnect assembly that holds the fuses ?

When you say "put safety switch in", are you saying it is new and just been installed by you ?

Thanks,
Robert

yes it is the disconnect assembly no it is not new, it is the same one that came with the furnace. We just put new fuses in. The blower and cover were really dirty so we cleaned them and put everything back in and it still started somking.

Hi,

That is usually a sign of high amperage and the smoke is caused by the melting/burning or early stages of it at plastic disconnect assembly.

This could be due to a wiring problem inside furnace or most often due to loose connections at the fuse prongs.

Most often, if found to be disconnect problem, only way to resolve it is to replace the disconnect assembly.

Can give a price quote if you tell me furnace model number and number of fuses and sizes.

Thanks,
Robert

Hi,

Disconnect Assembly # 3500-3281 @ $87.64 + $8.00 shipping .

It can be seen and ordered through PayPal from left side here :

http://www.mobilehomerepair.com/ColemanElec.html

If outside the U.S., then the surcharge listed at top left of page will need to be added to cart also.

Nordyne no longer makes or offers these, this is Colemans which is same thing and works the same. Only difference may be that the screw holes for mounting do not always line up.

This thread is being moved over to Nordyne Forum, please follow it there.

Thanks for inquiring,
Robert
