Toilet base smaller than the old one. How to cover the gap

Afternoon all,

I want to replace the toilet in my mid 1970's mh.

Lat spring, I had the bathroom floor covering redone with a one piece vinyl.

The new toilet bases are smaller, than the toilet I want to replace.

I'm looking for some ideas as to how I might handle the gap.

I'm hopping to lay down "something" over the floor covering before installing the new toilet.

Am I making sense ?

Thanks for any and all responses.

Hi Ray

Here's some options:

1. reinstall vinyl before the toilet is installed.

2. cut a piece of bathroom carpet to coverup.

3. cut a piece of 1/4" plywood to coverup...stain or paint it of course.

They make a stainless item and also a white tile item in the trade we call a pee plate. They are wider and longer than the toilet base. The ss one will be easier to install because it is thin and mounts under the toilet. The white on is 1/2 inch thick and will require a extension ring to be mounter on the toilet base flange.

The reason these are offered is for easier cleanup of spills if you know what I mean.

Hi Ray, I ran into the same problem in the master bath a few years ago when we had our toilets replaced.

The idiot that had the home before us installed wall to wall carpeting in the master bath. Hubby loves it in the Winter, and I just haven't gotten around to that room at all really. I've got that gap. I just covered it up with a contour toilet rug for now.

The glued, original sheet vinyl is still there to protect the floors. But, that carpet is coming up soon, and new solid vinyl is going down. Sure wish they'd come out with heated floors that didn't require cementing them in! I'd love heated floors, solar heated floors would be very cool! LOL!

Go to this link, scroll down to bottom and look at the Fernco Toilet Seals:

http://www.mobilehomerepair.com/Order3.html#catalog

They are wax-free seals. Make toilet installs and repairs a lot easier and cleaner.

Also less chance of leaks and no more having to adjust or changeout another wax ring.

Go Packers !!

Take care and best wishes,
Robert

I WILL be ordering one of these.

To add to the database of information on toilet base plates.

Here's a link with some pictures of OTHER Toilet base plates.

Hi Ray,

You're very welcome. It is most likely 3", but measure to be sure.

I will correct my other reply here. It should have said you CAN adjust with these.

With the wax rings, if you didn't get the set right first time and needed to adjust toilet, it required a new wax ring and starting over.

This takes that away and you can adjust with no problems.

Thanks for those links, will most likely be of big help I'm sure to others.

Take care and best wishes,
Robert
