I am having a new house installed. I was wondering if there is a difference between having the house placed on cinderblocks or metal jackstands? I have 6" concrete runners they will be placed on. Any other tips on the setup (Having it strapped down, etc)? Thanks for any help..

Hi, Another new family member. Personally I would go the concrete block route if for no other reason a steel jack stand will eventually rust, plus I think properly installed blocks will be more stable. Greg

Hi baily, Welcome to the forum!

A lot has to do with what area of the country you're from! Or the world for that matter! Different setups work better in different areas.

That's the main reason it's very important to create a simple profile! The more we know about your home, and general local, the better answers you'll get! That' very important for all of our newcomers to understand. Our homes differ by age and size, and locals play a huge part in setups!

Hi

Maureen is correct.

Florida has one of the stricter setup codes. Here's what Florida says ...in part:

Metal Stands - maximum height of 24"
Blocking (single tiered) maximum height 36"
Blocking (double tiered & interlocked) maximum height 52"

Most of the blocking around here is concrete block on concrete 16x16x4 base.

With that new home make sure you get an Installation Manual. It covers the set up and tie-downs in detail. Make sure the installers follow this manual.

Aside from the roof leak, soft floors, rats, mice and bursted plumbing ........ how do you like it?

As others stated, depends on area and codes. I believe in California it is metal jack stands due to earthquakes for example.

Florida or coastal areas would inhibit saltwater air and rust problems.

As harry said, you have height issues. Also soil/ground quality, so it takes homework and checking codes for best choice for your area.

Take care and best wishes,
Robert
