wall lag bolts

I've seen references to tightening these lag bolts, but I am curious as to if I can temporary remove them to remove the wall so I can remove the dirty vinyl underneath and put my new vinyl down. unfortunately the previous owner was in a habit of locking the dogs in the bedroom for far too long and of course the door jam was a prime target for a leg lift...
it'd be nice to get some kilz under the wall too.
If I re-frame the wall, can I simply lag the 2x3 or 2x4 back where they were, or should I have a 1x spacer. I thought that extra tread bite wouldn't hurt.

The lag bolts that may need tightening are the ones that hold the floor joists to the main I beams. It sounds to me like you may be talking about the rim joist (below the floor) at the outer edge. If so just make sure you have support for the roof if you need to take it out.

oops, forgot the pictures.. lol (or maybe I can't upload them)
these are by the bedroom doors on the interior wall. looks like they are only sunk into the floor joist, but also looks like they are directly over the beams. mbed is lagged over 1 beam, and the front bedroom is over the other beam (offset) wanted to make sure the trailer wall/room wouldn't shift if I removed them for a bit.

HOLY OVERKILL!!!! I have never seen that before. It looks to me like 4 1/2" lags in about a 24" space. You should be fine taking them out to do any work.

actually 16" center studded walls and floors! think the ceiling is on 24" center. I would say this is a katrina hud home, but it was built summer of 99 and a 2000 model year. there are also metal straps stapled between the outside wall and any interior framing even the closet(s) i tore out. not sure any of this would really help me and the trailer from flying away to OZ, but I'm not an engineer. (unless I stay @ holiday inn)

I have more pictures to take, but it's almost like this was a practice home for the rookie crews.

Strapping is common on the outside walls. I believe they are there to help prevent racking when the home is being transported and during high winds.

You don't need to be an engineer, but if you stop and think about what a Mobile home is subjected to BEFORE being lived in (going down rough roads at 60 MPH), Few stick built homes could survive that alone intact.

lol I know.. esp here in iowa where minimum code on stick built only requires plywood/osb 4ft from corners. the rest of the walls just have fiberboard insulating sheathing. Ive seen many a satellite dish drooping from them with only the vinyl siding holding them up..

well, wall is still down. The frost is still clinging to the north skirting, but gone from the south :) and nothing has collapsed.. lol :)
almost time to check and re-level, then framing and drywalling will commence.
thanks for the confidence boost guys!

Everything I know about home repair I learned from Mike Holmes, but he never worked on a mobile...

I would LOVE to see that episode!!!
