It also has vaulted ceilings throughout the whole house, so maybe that's why it only has soffit vents all the way around? I doubt it though because it still has a decent sized attic. There is a good distance between the ceiling and the roof still..

I am an idiot..lol..as many times as ive been up on the roof, i should have remembered. It DOES indeed have attic vents. Theres a total of 6..2 of them are the bathroom fan vents and the other 4 are indeed attic vents. I just didnt think they were there, so when i got home, i took a look..so, can i use these original style vents with the new metal roof, or do i HAVE to go with a ridge vent with metal?

starting to lean towards shingles instead of metal. I thought about the little rubber washers on the screws in the hot TN. sun...They will eventually dry rot and leak, so that kinda goes against the metal roof lasting longer.. MR. Roof will put on a shingle roof and guarantee it for life if you use their premium shingles..

Not all metal roofs are screwed down, that is the most common and least expensive way. There is also a system that uses hidden fasteners.

I do like that standing seam metal, but doubt i could afford it. They say its 3 times the price of regular metal roofing..

Get a few prices, it can't hurt. compare that against shingles.

The bathroom vents do nothing for the attic, so you have 4 attic vents. I would at least add more vents. You will thank yourself when the home stays cooler in the sun.

Every dw I've ever paid attention to has a 4:12 pitch or less. That is just too shallow for adequate runoff with shingles. I think it's asking for trouble.
In re: continuing with vent penetration and caps vs. Ridge venting, it's more work and it's installing big holes in your roof. More likelihood for trouble if you cut holes in your roof!
