Each year after the hot summers here in AZ, we relight our furnace and it seems to smoke for a couple of minutes and then goes away leaving a smell. Is this normal????

I have a Nordyne Gas Furnace installed in 1999.

Thanks

How do you know it is smoking and where does the smoke come from? As far a smell goes it could just be the dust on the outside of the heat exchanger causing a temporary smell.

You can see the smoke coming out of the top thru the chimney. It only does it for about a couple of mnutes and leaves a nasty smell until I air out the house. Then everything seems fine. I just want to make sure this is normal after sitting unlit for the summer.
Thanks,

Now that you have explained where the smoke is from I believe you are OK. It is possible for moisture and dirt to accumulate on the surface and when the furnace is lit for the first time show as smoke and an odor.
