I am just curious, but why is there a huge space over top of my evaporator coils/ air handler? I mean it goes from about 5 feet which is top of coils all the way to the ceiling! I can't see a purpose in it, the air comes in from the intake vent.

Is the intake (return) not on top?

The evaporator / fan unit sits in the wall. It is approximately 5 ' tall. There is space above the unit all the way to the ceiling. You have to take off the cover/intake vent and look in to see the space. It is enclosed and I see it as wasted space. The unit pulls the air in thru the side of unit, not the space above !

I asked a similar question. I have a 5" dia soft black that hangs from the ceiling. I was told it helps keep the attic or crawl space cooler especially with a metal roof.
Hope that helps ya.
Bless ya
Thank you
