Coleman model 3500A816

Postby kp » Thu Nov 05, 2009 12:01 am

Hi,

We have a Coleman 3500A816 (blower #3500-590) that has not been working lately. The elements are coming on and heating up, but sometimes the blower is not kicking on. Once the furnace gets hot enough the elements are shutting off but there is still no heat coming from the vents. We have been shutting off the breaker each day when we go to work to avoid any problems while we are gone, and my husband is somehow getting it to work in the evenings, sometimes by taking it apart and putting it back together, sometimes by simply hitting the front of it. It seems strange that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Usually it's not working in the mornings when we get up. You can hear a clicking sound when it kicks on, but not heat from the vents. We tested the charges on all the parts and they all tested posative.

Someone told us that it may be the thermostat??

We would appreciate any advice you have to offer!
Thanks.

Hi,

Look at front drawer plates where the elements are. Left end of each coil will be a spade terminal on a white ceramic insulator.

The wire from each goes to a spade terminal on the sequencers.

With a meter set for 120VAC, place one lead on each left end terminal and other to a screw for a good ground.

Do them one at a time, you should have 3 of them.

I'm suspecting that ONE will read 0VAC, while others read 120VAC when it is NOT working.

Let me know what you find.

Thanks,
Robert
