RE: Can you believe this?
Hubby and Son went up this afternoon and were able to pull it together about 1/2 inch with about 12 to 15 all thread bolts. Hubby said at least it won't move anymore. Now I should be able to fix the cracks and have them stay fixed!!

Can you believe this?
We are replacing our roof and stripped it down to the OSB. Then noticed that the sun was shining through a crack in the ceiling between the marriage walls. Upon further inspection, my hubby discovered that when they set the house up in 1990, they neglected to bolt together about 20 ft at the end of ...

RE: weight of solar on roof
Thanks for your input. I think we will have them install it next to the house, we have 10 acres, so we definitely have the room. Hopefully they will be able to do that. We don't have a problem with snow, just a lot of wind and heat. This company is in Calif, Arizona and Mass. The company is called S...

weight of solar on roof
I saw a snippet on the news about this company that "leases" solar panels for monthly charge. We looked at their website and see that they install on the roof. We also know that our roof is very lightweight. It is built with 2x2 trusses, 12" on center and only has 1/4" osb for th...

Ducted evaporative cooling
Last Oct I asked about connecting an evaporative cooler to the existing heater ducting in our home. You said to get opinions from HVAC contractors (very good advice) We heard a lot of opinions from HVAC contractors, (from it can't be done, you won't be happy with it, to sure no problem) We got estim...

RE: Need a Layout for Novalis Flooring
You start the first row with a full plank, then the nest row you start with a 1/2 plank. So the first plank in the first row would be 36" and the next row would start with an 18" plank.

RE: Central Air Vs. Window Unit
Depending on where you live in California, the most energy efficient cooling would be to install an evaporative cooler. We live in the high desert and except for a couple of days in the summer when it is humid, the evap cooler works great. If you don't want the evap cooler, or live where they don't ...

RE: Floor Joists?
If you have a Stock building supply or similar lumbar yard near your home, check out their prices. We found they were a LOT cheaper then the big box stores like Lowes or Home Depot. If I remember correctly, the 2x8x10s were something like $12 each, and $6 at the building supply. (We built our 1000sq...

RE: MH in park vs move to private land
We have a triple wide on 10 acres. We love it, don't want to ever have to move back into town, let alone into a MH community. We really enjoy the quiet, privacy and views.
If you have the choice, I would vote for the land any day.

RE: Our Deck project
I am so happy with it, I waited for 7 years to get it built. (always something else needed to be done). So far it has cost us, including labor, around $8000. That's another reason it is taking so long, it's been a pay as we go project.

RE: Pre Cast Concrete or Metal Skirting opinions
We have a poured concrete foundation around our home and have never had any problems at all. Our home has been here in the Mojave desert since 1990.
You can see what it looks like in the before picture I posted on the decoration and landscaping forum under Our deck project.
