There is another thread on here asking the same question. I also had this issue. Believe me when I say you have it right. You may have to use some strength to get it, but it does screw out. Good luck!

I had the same happen to me, but with the tp holder. And it wasn't a 2year old it was a 38 year old! We cut a piece of oak, stained to match the moulding and mounted it to the tp holder. Looks ok. We also did it where my 7year old put the door knob through the wall. Good luck!

I don't want to rain on your parade, but...how are you going to make the spackling compound stick to the vinyl wallboard? I have heard many times that it will just peel off or can be picked off cause it doesn't stick well to the vinyl? Are you worried about that happening?

You should be able to use regular locks. My father is a locksmith and changed all mine with regular ones.
