RE: Crack in ceiling!!!

Aye Mz. Yanita I rekkin' it all depends on your location, how level yer home is and how much it expands and contracts tru-out the seasons. Now, mind ye, I'm no too unhappy with my work..but there has been some disapointment. I tied all the rafters and walls together carefully and did my best to coun...

RE: Deck vs. Porch

Well now folks Greg mentioned something I've been saying for years. Stop using those wurfless "decking boards." I use 2x6 treated lumber for all the flooring on my projects. Those 5/4 decking boards are just junk. They'll crack, split, warp and lift at every oppertunity. I won't even use t...

RE: I am not a great "ironer"..from the Oldfart

Aye Wayne it's good to be back and I have missed the comaraderie here. I have been reading when time permitted and wished I could have joined in more. Took me a spell to figger out all the new stuff and I'm still not using it too well. Tried to reply clicking on the "quote" button and had ...

RE: Crack in ceiling!!!

Folks one thing I can tell ya'll is that if you have drywall/sheetrock in a home such as ours..it's gonna crack at the seams. If it hasn't done it yet..it will..just give it time. When I rebuilt my 12X70 s.w. I restudded all the interior walls and glued and screwed every drywall joint. Walls and cei...

RE: Deck vs. Porch

Aye M'am as Mz Yanita mentioned it's probably not best to attach a a deck or porch directly to our homes. You wouldn't believe how much these homes move via expansion and contraction thru the seasons. Not only does the ground heave and fall the homes themselves actually expand and contract! Doors st...

Wurfless cats....I got 'em!

Folks, Mz. Yanita asked about a wurfless cat that showed up on my doorstep some time back and it prompted me to write this. The cat in question is Fearless. A non-denominational cross-breed of indeterminate heritage. He's large fuzzy and grey. That's as best I can describe him. And... the moment... ...

RE: I am not a great "ironer"..from the Oldfart

Well now Mz. Yanita read your post and I'm scratching my head bald. Do you mean to say these %$#*! curtains have to be ironed again? Like every time I wash them! EGADS! I'm a busy man..got no time fer twaddlin' about slingin' an iron every 20 years or so! Ain't there such a thing as perma-press curt...

RE: I am not a great "ironer"..from the Oldfart

Well Folks..the curtains were at last hung. But...only half the curtains. I figgered 1 curtain/valance per rod was enough!! Ahhh..not so! "Noooooo!"...The Decorator said..upon her inspection..."Iron the other 2 valances and hang them on the rods." I dropped to my knees and pleade...

RE: I am not a great "ironer"..from the Oldfart

Yes...Part 2...sigh! I opened up the package yonder and knew well how the curtain rods must be placed. That took about 2 minutes. Snatched up the new curtains and made ready to string them on the rods..and then noticed the large attached note to "IRON THE CURTAINS BEFORE HANGING!" My first...

I am not a great "ironer"..from the Oldfart

Folks please forgive me being so absent these many months. I do not recall the last time I posted..(sigh) it's been that long. But..I have been reading when time permits. Anyways...on to the topic. To give some background I have been remodeling this old 1970 s.w. for about the last 23 years..give or...
