RE: 2009 single wide first home buyer help!

I'm just going to give you my opinion so take it for what it's worth but you'll get more bang for your buck, I think, NOT buying a new one. I debated this very thing a couple of years ago and it just made a heckuva lot more sense to me to buy a foreclosure. New homes are awfully pricey and depreciat...

RE: Turning and resetting home

Dean, Thanks for the info! Yeah, I was thinking of lifting the house intact rather than dismantling it. There is a totally empty double lot next to me and I know the lady who owns it well. I'm sure she'd have no problem with my house resting there while the site and foundation were prepared. This is...

RE: Romm divider for mobile home

OK, off-topic, but I just have to say it. I LOVE English mastiffs!!!! :D Wonderful, protective of their families while retaining a super disposition! THREE would be a challenge around the house, LOL. Alan's idea is great! Honestly, I don't think a room divider would contain them and it sounds ...

RE: Turning and resetting home

Thanks, Yanita. Harry, I think you're right but I'm curious. If I could get it done for around $5K, it might actually be worthwhile to take out a loan and do it. As I said, I'm here for the long-term and the money I'd save in cooling costs and roof damage over time would be worth it. But I doubt I c...

RE: Sprucing up the kitchen

It's great to meet you, too, Yanita! It's nice to be able to discuss decorating with someone who "gets" my taste, LOL. The layout of your home sounds really cool! How many square feet is it? The cabinet painting continues, sigh. I'm really, really sick of it, LOL. However, I don't think I'...

Turning and resetting home

On a few threads, I've mentioned how bummed I am that the end of my home instead of the front of my home faces the street. It's not just an aesthetic thing with me -- turning it around would protect the home from the most damaging winds and the home would stay cooler in the summer because the aftern...

RE: Matching Roof Shingles

I had this very issue in January. Horrible windstorm that ripped off a few sections of shingles and the tar paper underneath them. I'm fully insured (at replacement value, thank God!) and have a $250 deductible. I thought the insurance adjuster would recommend repair instead of replacin the roof but...

Heh, I'm with Aaron. :)

I'm not a cat keeper but if I was and had cats doing that sort of damage, I think I'd build them a nice big cat house (LOL, no, not that kind!) outside and just bring a few in at a time when I wanted to play with them.

I think I'd be leery about painting the inside of a tub. If you really want to try it, though, perhaps that special paint for plastic outdoor furniture would work? If it's durable enough to withstand outdoor weather and storms, it might work? I dunno, but good luck!

RE: Trailer, MH or Manufactured?

Great house, Diane! I'll bet it's lovely on the inside, too! Heh, people can never believe the space and amenities we have in our homes! Only Home Depot has told me they won't work on MHs. I wanted them to install a new screen door for me but they said they couldn't. The door guy apologised and said...

RE: Does anyone, anywhere manufacture a QUALITY mobile home?

Yanita and Robin, I agree with you! My double-wide was manufactured in 2000 and I got the whole place (land, porch, shed, carport and some nice landscaping) for $29,000. A stick-built home this size would have cost WAY more than that and no home is problem-free. As you said, you save SO MUCH MONEY b...

RE: Trailer, MH or Manufactured?

Diane/TexasPrairieRose, I'm so sorry you're having trouble finding technicians for your MH! I haven't had that problem, and hope I won't in the future! Maybe it's because I bought a foreclosed home and, since I got such a great deal, I decided to buy a home warranty for it. Heh, I used that warranty...

RE: Does anyone, anywhere manufacture a QUALITY mobile home?

I have a Silver Creek home and I'm very pleased with it. We get a LOT of wild storms with hail and it's routinely very windy here and my home has stood up to it all better than many stick-built homes in town. And I'm out in the country without substantial windbreaks. I don't know much about construc...

RE: Trailer, MH or Manufactured?

Oh, my, I HATE the term "trailer" and it has nothing to do with snobbery. It's simply inaccurate and a misnomer. I would venture that none of our homes could "trail" behind a pickup truck. That's what a trailer is -- either a travel "camper" or a conveyance for livestoc...

Wow, I am SO glad that you, your wife and your doggy are OK! What a hit your home took! Do be careful doing the cleanup and tree removal!

I hope y'all get a good settlement so you can buy a great new home!
