Re: General plumbing questions
I believe that any of the tapes are possessed by some sort of evil deity. If you need the tape to stick and stay put - it will peel itself off as soon as you aren't looking. OTOH, if you need to undo a taped area - there is no way the stuff will peel off in any manner that resembles sanity. :D When ...

Re: General plumbing questions
When i gutted the belly - I found the piping was (for the most part) not suspended from the floor joists. it was mostly just left laying on top of the belly. I see it as a staggering display of the penny-pinching cheap methods used to assemble these homes. For instance, my shower heads were somewhat...

Re: Installing Outdoor Electrical Outlets
A couple things... 1) Use an offset strategy - but pay attention to the placement of wall studs - and wall wiring. 2) Pencil out where you need to cut to fit in an "old work" box. Cut it out, and assemble the box/wire/outlet. -OR- Just use a surface mount box. All you need is a small hole ...

Foundation power vents
has anyone installed any kind of the "power vents" in the foundation skirting? I've been looking at installing a couple-two-three of the 6 or 7 inch power vents controlled by a humidistat instead of the standard 'free flow' vent thingies. The ones that are reversible would seem to be a per...

Re: House Painting Question
I would be hard pressed to think $9700 was a fair price for painting an interior. Does that quote include ceilings? Are you a heavy smoker requiring all surfaces to be treated with Kilz first? Have the walls been painted previously - and there are problems with that paint job? There is a lot of info...

Re: Sub Floors and vapor barrier
Definitely get a vapor barrier down so to stop any further damage. Also, check the belly to be sure it is in good condition. Just a heads up - depending on how moist it has been under there - you may have some mold/mildew issues to contend with. Good luck!

Re: Recommendations for insulation under belly
uh-oh......I got to back track on the win. Was out just kinda of checking on things....and one corner has some terrifying signs of breach. I used landscape timbers - turned up on edge, then staked to contain the pea gravel at about 6" out from the skirting panels. The depth below grade is about...

Re: Recommendations for insulation under belly
being my skirting was plastic - and critters had chewed clean through it in multiple places....and being i was tired of patching holes in the belly....I had all of it torn completely out. Had a company come in a spray foam on the entire underside, and then installed metal skirting with an abundance ...

Re: Another rim joist question?
Hate to say it - but I really don't have a very high opinion of "inspectors". I financed via VA - and VA required the inspection. The only thing the "inspector" noted was my tie-downs were not cemented into the ground. The closing was postponed until the owner had some goofball c...

I don't think that either big orange or big blue carry anything. You might check with Orange Aluminum as they have an extremely wide variety of extruded aluminum...and their prices are pretty danged good as well. Checking their website...under Products > Channels...on the left side of that page is a...

HVAC duct redirect - IT WORKS !
A combination of factors all came together - in the worst way - which left my underside ducting in shambles. The main piece of ducting in each half of this double wide looked like swiss cheese, and the flex duct got ripped and torn by the re-level contractor. It's easy enough to replace the flex duc...

Re: Best method for skirting
Call around, prices here are all over the place. check some of the lumber yards also. If you have any steel roofers in your area, you may be able to buy cutoffs long enough for skirting. Greg Also check with regular metal roofing suppliers as sometimes a customer cancels an order - so it all kinda ...

Re: What is this called?
If the round work box was screwed in via the 4 mounting holes - then you can get an exact replacement from orange or blue big box. But! If you cannot access how this box was mounted - you will have to get a work box that has little plastic 'flags' that flip into place behind the mounting surface to ...

Re: Skirting vents oriented vertically?
After a few setbacks.... I'll start installing my new skirting this coming week. I've got some siding panels that have rot at the bottom, so that will be repaired first - and then it is on to the skirting! I have read recently that venting is not necessary as long as there is thorough and complete g...

Re: Help! Possible no tie downs, home seems quite unstable
When I had my place re-leveled, I also had them install the Xi2 foundation stabilization system. I had them do all 4 corners - and any vibration is now gone. At each corner - they dug a hole about 2ft x 2ft x 2ft, and then filled it with concrete. The re-level plus 4 of the retro fits was $3200. Her...
