RE: Advice for not a do-it-yerselfer?
I'll add a bit here after finding a snake under our home. The home is modular on a steel frame. There is a permanent brick foundation but like Yanita said the brick doesn't actually touch the home's steel foundation. There is (was) a small gap around the entire home between the siding and the brick....

RE: Are you ready for winter?
Another thing people can do to prevent spigot freeze is to add freezeproof sillcocks. These have a really long stem and allow the water to still be used when needed, but don't allow cold air to come in contact with anything that will freeze up. Not sure if these can be used in all MH applications. W...

RE: General question about weight
I'd say find out what type of floor structure you have. If it's OSB or plywood subflooring supported by 2X8s then I'd say you'll be fine. If the flooring is the cheaper and weaker particle board then you might have an issue. Maybe some members here have done similar updates and will chime in. Later!

RE: pool in the house
Posting a few pics would really be helpful. Personally I'd look more into changing the slope and direction of the grade itself so the water is diverted in another direction. Using something like sandbags (or similar devices) is only a Band-Aid effect and not a real cure for the problem. This will pr...

RE: Urine smell under house/ registers
Yeah you do have to be careful with what is mixed with bleach, but Simple Green is totally harmless mixed with bleach and cleans everything outside better than anything I've tried. I don't care what it is...... mold, mildew, animal stains, tree sap on siding, etc... Works better than any pre-mixed s...

Either the foam or a good all-purpose caulk (depending on gap width). Whatever you do, I'd let it dry really good and install the trim. Later!

RE: Urine smell under house/ registers
Tell you what I've done for cat urine on outside furniture with cushions...... I came up with a mix of 1 pint of bleach, 1 pint of Simple Green and mix this with 3/4 gallon of water. I then run this through my pressure washer and do all my cleaning outside, including the cat urine issue. It works gr...

I'll tell you that one of the moderators will be moving this to the "Heating/Cooling" section. Maybe you'll have more exposure there and it can be solved. Sorry I can't help. Later!

RE: Water Heater Issue
What I'd do is drain the heater and take both elements out. Look/feel around the inside of it the best you can to see what type of shape the tank is in. If all looks OK and there aren't any signs of leaking externally I'd replace both elements (maybe $25) and see how that works. They are easy to rep...

RE: Water seen running down outside wall
I don't know if you mentioned it in previous posts, but do you have gutters? If so water could be streaming down behind the gutters and then dropping onto the siding and running down from there. Could also be a case of heavy condensation. Later!

RE: What should I use to clean?
Yeah I'm a big believer in Rid-X, as something that costs maybe $5 monthly can't hurt. Most people say that a properly maintained septic system is self-sustaining, but I don't think a little extra bacteria will hurt. I'm the same way with "green" cleaning products. Due to having severe all...

RE: Getting rid of cigarette smell!
I do agree on the coffee grounds. I'm an espresso nut and a big no-no is putting coffee in the refrigerator or freezer because it will absorb ANY scent/moisture and then be ruined. For any that need to know, beans should only be ground right before use and should always be stored at room temp. in an...

RE: Condensation on water lines....arrrrgggghhhh!!!
Actually PEX will indeed sweat somewhat. May not do it as much as other types of supply lines, but they will break a sweat. Case in point..... We own a nice modular home that utilizes PEX throughout and I really like it. The piping has never leaked and it's easy to work with. The only negative is ho...

RE: Intermittent Water pressure?
The pressure tank should either be under the house or at the head of the well. It should never be buried, as it needs to be serviced a few times a year. It's one of those "out of sight, out of mind" things for most people and should be maintained like anything else. As long as most people ...

RE: Intermittent Water pressure?
There's much more to a pressure tank than just having air in it. For example, about 1.5 years ago my M-I-L was having well problems. She didn't want to bother me and called a plumber that went over and "found" the problem to be a pump going bad. He said he couldn't say for sure it was the ...
