Re: Hot water heater about to break?
I'm with Greg on that one. Sure sounds like the bottom element is caked up and on its way out. It's not really that tough of a job to change. Lowes/Homedepot and maybe even lower hardware stores sell elements & the tool needed to remove them. You should need either a 3500 or 4500 watt element. C...

Re: My adventures in Mobile Home duct cleaning!
Be careful when cleaning these fiberglass ducts. Do not use a brush on them. If you got stuff that wont break loose leave it. There is a coating on the inside of the fiberglass duct that is designed to keep particles from breaking free. You degrade or loosen that layer you going to be pulling a lot ...

I've used the "cinch" style stainless steel rings http://www.amazon.com/Watts-P-572-2-Inch-Stainless-10-Pack/dp/B000BO7G8O/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1389478964&sr=8-4&keywords=pex+crimp+rings But I refer to them as "crimp rings" also. When I was in new construction the p...

Re: wiring furnace for gennerator
If you are only trying to power your furnace, then yes. Go to a hardware store and buy one of those make you own plug kits. Or cut a piece of cord with the plug end attached. When the power goes out flip your main off and then take apart the power wiring on the furnace and wire nut it with the exten...

Do you have a wiring schematic available? There's gotta be a flame sensor. Is there any other model number info you can provide like is a DGAT or DGAM? I believe I have a manual downloaded somewhere for this series.

Take the flame sensor out, I think it should be like a rod type and then you can try cleaning it with sand paper and re-install to see if it improves.

Re: Plastic or Metal?
Gator bite fittings like the solder less ones at Lowes? Kinda like Sharkbite.
I'm not sure I follow you cause you say your using Gator Bite fittings but not going to use the gator bites for the elbows and couplings? Or do you mean the plastic pex elbows & brass elbows the sell for pex pipe?

Re: Fireplace. Gas or Wood burnig?
If you got the wood and can prep it yourself without having to buy it then go with the wood. If not I would go with gas. The heat loss of the wood burning through the chimney is true but not too drastic.

Re: 1998 Nordyne MMHA-070ABHR-5 and use of a generator
You should be good. I ran mine last year with the fridge, tv's and computer plugged in all at the same time. Granted I have a 7500 watt generator but the furnace draws minimal.

Re: How much does your central AC cost per month?
During summer time my electric bill is around $120 - $160 depending on how hot it is outside. I usually keep it pretty cool especially over night. Now remember that electric prices vary and depending on the efficiency of the unit and also how well the home is insulated etc etc etc its really hard to...

I found a 20 x 30 x 1 pleated filter fits inside the door perfect for most of the newer nordyne furnaces.

Re: insulated duct work???
Laying a vapor barrier down on the ground will help and if its metal duct the insulation around it should be good enough but you can wrap the duct as well. Also ensure the belly material is sealed and tight.

Re: Tankless Hot water heaters
A booster pump or constant pressure pump will certainly help if you have pressure drops. I put my tankless water heater in last summer and based off the money I am saving since I installed it, it will have paid its self off next year. So my tankless water heater only took 2 years to pay itself off. ...

Re: Tankless Hot water heaters
Yes, that is a downfall to them. I have a propane Rinnai tankless and they claim they can operate down to 20 PSI. So make sure you looking into that or monitor your water pressure by throwing a gauge on and see if it stays good. To be honest if there's only 2 people there and then sometimes a third,...
