Re: Coleman 7956-856 burner won't light
Kevets, the reason I asked that question about the relay box is because many don't know how to troubleshoot a 2 wire t-stat system. 2 wires sound simple but it really complicates things in the low voltage control system. Here's why: To start off with you MUST use a heat ONLY thermostat. A dual purpo...

Re: Roof-Over Question
A big part of it will be where you live. If your in the southern half of the states I would get the white roof. Way cooler in the summer.

Re: belly wrap/insulation question
Outside of the I-beams you can usually staple insulation in between the joists as normal. In between the I-beams is where you need to drape it down some to form a belly. Easiest I found was to cut encapsulated insulation about 18"-24" longer than the width of the home. Working from the mid...

Re: Window cable
Keep their site handy. I have recently had a customer need new latches, the ones that allow the lower sash to fold out. Apparently they are breaking down from UV rays and disintegrating. Every window on the east side of her home needs them replaced. Just got the order in and will install this week.

Re: belly wrap/insulation question
You're best off putting up new belly wrap as well as new insulation. That wrap helps keep the heat in and drafts out.

Re: more about cleaning w-heater
You can try but more often than not the valve, being quite restrictive, continues to plug up. Just posted a procedure about replacing that drain valve with a full flow ball valve on the other W/H thread. It will make flushing/draining the water heater easier.

Re: Water heater maintenance
Replace the original drain valve with a full flow ball valve. Plumb that down and out so you can flush the water heater with a quick turn of the valve. Easy to do once a month for a few minutes, it will keep the build up to a minimum.

Re: Patch Hole in Ductwork
Since the outside of the duct is probably cleaner than the inside here's a simple fix. Cut another piece of either sheet aluminum or metal larger than the hole. Apply a liberal bead of 100% silicone sealant to the mating surface. Place over the hole and use some metallic duct tape to hold it in plac...

Re: PEX Tubing
For a replumb straight sections of pex are easier to use. You can get away from the pressure drop by running 3/4" to your farthest appliance that requires plumbing then tee off it along it's length with 1/2".

Re: Roof Leak, Ceiling Damage
Some manufacturers built their roof structures with buffalo board/black board in between the rafters and metal roof to quiet them down. There is some insulation value as well. I would leave as much of that in place as possible. Make the new rafters from either 2x6 or 2x8 material, install those 16&q...

Re: Need Roof Over Advice
Any new metal roof will be noisy. A rubber roof over is a better idea if you're looking to be quiet but they have a limited life span, roughly 10 - 15 years.

Re: 78' skyline 12x 60 sw reno
When you say electric heat do you mean baseboard style heat or an electric furnace? Reason being if you have baseboard and no longer use the original ducting you need to get all your fresh water plumbing into the living space of the home. The plumbing depends on that heat in that duct to keep it fro...

Re: Kinro window
You will have to remove the entire unit and board up the hole for a few weeks. Kinro makes "cartridges", those are preassembled sealed glass replacements for their windows. Normally you have to take the window unit to a glass guy so he can remove the old cartridge and install the new one. ...
