Axles on or off?

I have a 1970 single-wide. The axles (and tires) are still on it. My contractor says the axles should be removed when he re-sets the piers because of their weight. My neighbor says "Don't let them remove the axles because if you decide to move the mobile home, then they will charge you much mor...

Re: New water line - best practice

Here in the north east we think nothing of running PEX from the ground shutoff through the home. PEX is very forgiving when it comes to freeze ups. If you are running under ground I would go copper. Greg That sounds good to me. Do you install some sort of box in the ground or does the pipe just com...

Blocks or steel piers?

I need to have the piers on my mobile home re-set. Some piers have fallen perhaps due to rotten non-pressure treated wood. My local contractor says he really prefers concrete block on 16" pads. But most dealers here seem to use steel piers. My contractor says steel piers will need to be relevel...

New water line - best practice

I plan to re-run the main water line to my single-wide mobile home in Flagstaff Arizona. I would be curious to know what is considered best for this. The current line looks like a mess. It seems to be part pvc, part washing machine hose, and I don't know what else is inside the insulation. I don't p...

Re: Dog Proofing my skirting

Trade the dog in for a house cat. I read the once a dog gets past the pain of the electric shock collar they are off for other parts. I meant the actual electric fence not the "invisable fence" I would have tried the "invisable fence" but I had a hard time getting the collars on...

Re: Dog Proofing my skirting

Try an electric fence for dogs. They are easy to install. The dog will get shocked 2 or 3 times and then will never come back.

I use one to keep pack rats out of my motorhome.

Re: Making skirting rodent proof.

It is virtually impossible to keep mice out if they want in. Your best option is to keep poison under your home at all times. It is unlikely they are eating the poison and then crawling into the insulation. After eating poison they go to water and drinking is what kills them. The poison dehydrates ...

Re: Find the problems - win a mug #2

The blocks should be placed with the holes up and down, not sideways. The wedge on top should have 2 wedges pointed toward each other. The blocks should be parallel with the frame, not at 90 degrees. There appears to be no pad below the blocks. There should be a 16x16x4 pad. The wood on top should n...

Re: Snow/ice on roof

My mobile home is used for a summer home, so I am not there to rake the roof. My mobile is in Flagstaff AZ and the neighbor said they had 5 feet of snow. He offered to shovel my roof for $250. That seemed like a lot of money for something that may need to be done again. So we told them we would risk...

Best skirting material?

I just bought a 1970 12x65 in Flagstaff Arizona. It has T1011 for skirting which is in bad shape and the inspector says that wood should not contact the ground. Vinyl seems the cheapest but many say that it will crack after a few years and one friend says that critters will find their way in. My ins...
