Re: Oh cr*p, toilet problems!
Oops, forgot to answer your question - yes, the toilet is sitting 6" from the wall.

Re: Oh cr*p, toilet problems!
Hi Ponch, I had spent way too much time last night and again this evening trying to decide what to do, toilet wise. I had pretty much decided on bringing the wall out to meet the toilet and getting this model: http://www.homedepot.com/Bath-Toilets-Toilet-Seats-Bidets-Toilets-Two-Piece-Toilets/h_d1/N...

Re: Complete remodel
Wow, you lucky dogs - I wish someone would have given my husband and me some land and a doublewide! I know just enough to be dangerous, but we don't have an option. We have to fix up our 1988 Astro and it needs a lot of fixing up, now that we've lived in it almost a year. Our home and finances are k...

Re: Oh cr*p, toilet problems!
Well now I need to ask you all if I can use a 12" rough-in toilet in a 16" rough in measurement! We were going to buy a new inexpensive toilet today, and the salesperson at H.D. asked me what our rough-in measurement was. I remember reading that term somewhere (Mark's book?), but forgot to...

Re: Oh cr*p, toilet problems!
Awesome help, Thanks very much everybody! Of course, life got in the way of my plans to begin today as we got a call early this morning and my Mom had fallen - again. But I will be sure to post photos of the repair in the hopes that it may help someone else. Like the stairs, it may take this newbie ...

Re: Oh cr*p, toilet problems!
Are joist hangers the same thing as the straps mentioned? I've seen joist hangers that look like U's, with wings on the sides. Thanks for the reminder about the construction adhesive - I had seen that in Mark's book, but had spaced putting it on my supply list. This place was built in 1988, and is o...

Thanks for posting the photos; that looks complicated. What type of PEX are you using?
And what PEX tools are you having to use?

Re: Oh cr*p, toilet problems!
Great tips, thank you. Steve you are right. I should have remembered that from just putting on a set of stairs, where I had read to use nails for shear strength and did just that. I used the screws for attaching the reinforcing angles I used, but they were made especially for shear strength by Simps...

Re: Oh cr*p, toilet problems!
Thanks Greg! I'm not sure with the way the toilet doesn't move at all about the ring, though. It feels pretty sturdy on the floor, but that water is all around the bottom, and fanned out quite a bit (tried to show in first photo, but didn't come out well).Guess I'll find out when we empty it and lif...

Re: Muttering under my breath….
Well, I've posted photos on here before, and I've just (finally) figured out how to do it again, yay. I just keep one tab up with my posting on it, bring up my editing program and then adjust and see if the site will accept it. Dicey, a pain in the butt, but I was able to post about my current quest...

New exterior stair section added
Well, it seems like I'm on here posting then quiet a looong time. Been a busy summer so far. We moved in here last October, and had a cold winter with mice dancing through the place, but not too many problems. The worst thing about the bad floors was the washer pushed itself right through the floor,...

Oh cr*p, toilet problems!
resizedtoilet3.jpg resizedtoilet2.jpg resizedtoilet1.jpg Hi folks, I finally got the photos sized to an acceptable size, and wanted to show you our toilet. We've been smelling a strong ammonia smell, and from what I read on here, our seal is gone underneath. I took off some of the skirting yesterda...

Re: Muttering under my breath….
Hi there Greg, Yep, that's what I did and both times, the site either kicked me back to "login" (which meant I lost everything), or told me my photo file was too big. On my editing software, I can't see megabytes or kilobytes (?) used, but I sized them down to smaller than I've seen on her...
